Martha Bleker Obituary

Martha Bleker
November 22, 1944 - June 30, 2021
Fort Worth, Texas - Martha was the only child of Robert Quillian Thrasher and Mattie Jo Thrasher. She was born in Augusta, GA and moved with her parents to Houston, TX when she was 5. Martha graduated from Lamar H.S. in 1963. Her love for young children guided her educational and career choices. She attended Southwestern University where she was a member of the acapella choir and Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She finished her degree in elementary education at the University of Texas at Austin. She earned her Masters in Education in 1970 at Stephen F. Austin University. Martha worked as a teacher at Child Study Center in Fort Worth for 10 years and then as a special education teacher and guidance counselor at FWISD for 20 years. She retired in 2009. Martha's patience and kindness enabled her to teach many special ed. children over the years. Her support was greatly appreciated by the parents of those children. Martha had many interests including gardening, playing the piano, collecting antiques, traveling, and talking about her 2 grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Dr. Edward G. Bleker, son, Robert E. Bleker, daughter-in-law, Joyce E. (Kraftson) Bleker, and grandchildren, Edward T. Bleker (16) and Emily D. Bleker (13). A memorial will be held at Greenwood Memorial Park Chapel at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, July 7th.

Knew Ms. Bleker from the Child Study Center helping with my sons. So kind and knew what she was doing.

I have just learned today of Martha´s death. She was an angel and a foundational friend to me. Though apart in our adult lives we were never far apart as children. We giggled so much at sleepovers our parents would make us take breaks. We would have to promise not to giggle but could never keep the promise. Who knows what was so funny. Everything. I loved her dear sweet soul. I pray you her family is comforted by blessed memories and a real spirit presence this holiday season. Nancy Smith

Hate to hear of Ms. Bleker's passing. Got to know her at the Child Study Center and saw how calm she could stay when dealing with kids that weren't always. Will remember her sweet smile and reassuring way.

Ed
We are so sad to hear of Martha`s passing. We had no idea she had been battling Parkinson´s for so long. We have so many happy memories of both of her and you when we were next-door neighbors. Being on your sailboat and taking a cruise was one of our fondest.
from Mary: Martha was always There was always there for me with a helping hand or a
plate of cookies. We would talk on the phone almost every day, sharing details of every day life and the adventures of our families. I remember visiting West Creek when she worked there. Everyone admired her and her work. I also remember her Beautiful flowerbeds and enjoyed her latest Remodeling remodeling projects . We shared a love of antiques, being only children, A passion for special needs children, and being Alpha Delta Pi alumni.
After we moved from the neighborhood, and I would come for a visit, she would always share her latest addition to her antique compact or blue plate collection. Even though we haven´t seen each other for several years, fond memories are fresh and remind me that she shared a special love for others
Ed, please know you are in our thoughts and prayers now and the days to come.
Robert,
We have SO MANY great memories of you with Benji and Goose growing up! Your mom was always there to Love and support you, no matter what. Moms are special and your mom was exceptional. It will be hard to lose her, but she will always be there in your heart. You are in our thoughts and prayers now and in the days ahead.
We have planted trees in her memory instead of sending flowers for her service. She loved the earth and beautiful flowers, so this seemed like a good memorial to her. Love and deep sympathy To you, Joyce, and
your children.
