Mary Looney Obituary

Mary Looney

August 15, 1934 - December 5, 2024

Fort Worth, Texas - It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Alice Looney announces her passing on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at the age of 90. Over the past 7 years, she traveled the very difficult journey of dementia with dignity and grace. Although she lost so much of herself, she never lost her sense of humor and love for her family. We will miss her terribly.

Mary Alice Looney, known affectionately as Alice, was born on August 15, 1934, in Lindsay, Texas, to Pete and Pauline Block. Alice spent her formative years in Lindsay and graduated Salutatorian from Lindsay High School before marrying Aloys Carl Kuntz and moving to Fort Worth, dedicating her life to her family.

Alice's heart was ever warm and welcoming, and she was known for her love of family gatherings and her fondness for celebrating Christmas. Her diligent nature was matched by her generosity, as she always made time to assist those in need. In Fort Worth, Alice worshiped at Holy Name Catholic Church, St. Rita's Catholic Church, and St. Patrick Cathedral, reflecting her deep faith which guided her throughout her life. She was very active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Ladies Auxiliary. She assisted in running the bingo games for the fundraising efforts of those organizations as well as the American Legion. She also worked as a saleswoman and an administrative assistant at local retail stores for several years.

Alice was the beloved matriarch of a large and loving family. She is survived by her sons, Stephen (Gwen) Kuntz of Houston, Donald (Cindy) Kuntz, Patrick (Linda) Kuntz, all of Fort Worth, Philip (Tammye) Kuntz, of Aledo, and Christopher (Andrew) Kuntz and Jeffrey (Elisa) Kuntz of Dallas; daughters Paula Kuntz-Long of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Julie (David) Cannaday of Frisco; 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sisters, Elfreida Wagner of Perry, Oklahoma, Irene Loerwald of Robson Ranch, Texas, and Patty (Bill) Hemmi of Scotland, Texas. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar James Looney; her parents, Pete and Pauline Block; her brothers, Wilbert (Sonny) Block and Eugene Block; and her sisters, Beatrice (Tootsie) Kuntz and Evelyn Furhmann.

On Tuesday, December 10, 2024, a Rosary will be led by Deacon Jim Crites at 6:00 p.m. followed by visitation from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Thompson's Harveson & Cole, located at 4350 River Oaks Boulevard, Fort Worth, Texas 76114. A second Rosary will be held at 1:15 p.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at St. Patrick Cathedral, 1206 Throckmorton Street, Fort Worth, Texas 76102, with Fr. John Robert Skeldon officiating. Burial will follow immediately at Shannon Rose Hill Cemetery. A celebration of Alice's life will be held at Ridglea Country Club, 3700 Bernie Anderson Avenue, Fort Worth, Texas 76116.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the amazing staff at Belmont Village on Turtle Creek in Dallas and Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate care during her final days, with special acknowledgements to Kayla Thompson, Amarantha (Shawn) McGill, Rodest Harris, Yolanda Perkins and JR Hill, all of Belmont Village, and Amber Gudmundson of Gentiva Hospice. Their kindness, dedication, and support will always be remembered. They all truly made a difference, and we are forever grateful.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Patrick Cathedral, Fort Worth, Texas.
