Michael Allen Gibson died Saturday, June 14, 2014, at a Fort Worth hospital after a long battle with heart disease and cancer. He was 73. Mike was born Oct. 23, 1940, in Robinson, Ill., to the late Lula Vance Allen and Charles James Gibson. He grew up in Andrews and Kermit, Texas, and served in the United States Air Force. Mike married Claire Myers of Spokane, Wash., on Aug. 28, 1961, and they settled in Texas to raise their family. Mike's career was spent in the laundry business and accounting profession, including a number of years working for the late Bob Bullock, lieutenant governor of Texas. Mike spent his time focused on the family he loved and found being a grandfather was the ultimate role in his life. He became proficient in computer technology and an avid fan of NASCAR racing. Predeceasing Mike were his sister, Barbara Loper of Odessa; stepfather, Roy Lee Allen of Andrews; sister-in-law, Juanita Gibson of Kermit; and brothers-in-law, A.C. "Buddy" Loper of Odessa and Gayle Morrow of Abilene. Survivors: His beloved family, Claire Gibson of Willow Park; son, Mark Gibson and wife, Sheryl Gibson, of Kyle; daughter, Christina Gibson Henke and husband, Duane Henke, of Burleson; daughter, Dr. Angela Gibson O'Brien and husband, Daniel O'Brien, of Austin; granddaughter, Madeline Claire O'Brien of Austin; brother, Duane Gibson of Austin; sister, Susan Gibson Mueller and husband, Robert Mueller, of Austin; sister, Serena Nelson and husband, Jack Nelson, of Andrews; sister, Shirley Morrow of Abilene; sister, Patricia Watts and husband, Don Watts, of Eastland; and many nieces and nephews.
