One of my favorite "Derek" stories:
Derek gave me my "Dallas name" JohnnyB in 1993...My funny memory is when I would end up in the car with Derek & Dave, Derek always wanted me to put the cell phone charger in my mouth/on my tongue while he plugged it into the lighter...I would not. Finally I appeased him one time. He laughed so hard and told me his dad showed him that...fun times. Sweet boy/young man. Love you Derek (:

I have so so many memories of Derek when he was young and growing up. I loved the summer of manners when you were pulling out chairs for Alyssa at the kitchen table. I loved how polite you were to everyone even when you were hurting. I loved seeing you throwing the football on Sundays after church. I loved your dry sense of humor so like your mom's. We have loved and prayed for you for the last 20 years and will continue to do so for Dave, Susie, and Alyssa for the next 20 years or more.

I so wish I would have had the pleasure of meeting Derek. I do know that he had a excellent role model in his Dad and that he was loved very much. RIP

Derek, I knew you so little, but I enjoyed cooking things that might tempt your appetite. You touched more lives than you realized. You fought hard, you earned your rest.

Derek I met you in Highschool and we shared a English class together. You sat right behind me and would not stop asking me questions. I was a shy kid but Derek had such a big personality that he demanded my attention. Soon enough we became friends and talked all the time in class. We had a coach for a teacher and we often made funny comments on how easy his class was and how little the coach cared. Derek would show me card tricks in class, and he had a new one almost everyday it seemed like. I was amazed and always tried to get him to show me his secrets or figure them out (He would only show me a few lol). After the class was over at the end of the year we grew apart and I didn't see much of Derek again until we graduated from Keller High. We began right where we left off. We went to many Stars Hockey games and had a great time every time we went. We shared some of our biggest fears about life and talked a lot about God. These were some of the best conversations I've had with another person. Then I moved away to college and I never got to see or talk to Derek again. I just wanted a way to say goodbye to Derek because regrettable I never got to. My love and condolences go out to all of Derek's loved ones. He will be missed.
