Paul was born Aug. 9, 1941, in Chanute, Kan., to the late George and Helen Walters Lindblad. He was raised in Chanute and Kansas City and was a graduate of Chanute High School and Junior College. Paul attended the University of Kansas on a baseball scholarship.
Paul was signed as a pitcher by the Kansas City Athletics baseball club in 1962, which moved to Oakland in 1967. He played there four years until he was traded in 1971 to the Washington Senators, which later became the Texas Rangers baseball club in 1972. Paul played in the major leagues for 14 years for the Oakland A's, Washington Senators, Texas Rangers and retired in 1979 from the New York Yankees.
He was a member of three World Series championship teams, two with the Oakland A's in '73 and '74, and one with the New York Yankees in 1978. Paul was the winning pitcher in the third game of the 1973 World Series against the New York Mets. He was also a member of the 1975 all-star team.
After retirement from the major leagues, Paul was a custom homebuilder for several years. He joined the minor league baseball system as a pitching coach until his illness forced him to retire in 1994.
Paul enjoyed fishing, hunting and coin collecting. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved his family and friends.

Kathy;
I cannot express fully the sorrow I felt when Kenny wrote to tell me of Paul's passing. I remember the golden days in Oakland, and the closeness I felt for the wives and players who suppported each other through those exceptional times. With family so far away, we were our own "tribe". Please know my thoughts are with you and your family - I have a sense we'll be seeing Paul as relief man on that Field of Dreams very soon.

Those of us who knew him well respected him for his honesty, courage and love of his family. He was a great outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt and enjoyed many joyous times with Catfish and others on his team. May he rest in peace. A former friend and teammate

Dear Kathy, We loved Jr. so much. He is now at peace but we will always remember the great times we had together, he was one of a kind, a "pill" where I was concerned, but a good "pill", there will never be anyone else like him.
We are always here for you,
Love, Tony & Becky
