A native of Waco, R.C. Archenhold was born Jan. 19, 1916, the son of Harry and Reube Nussbaum Archenhold. Called "Arch" from childhood, he grew up in Waco until his father relocated the family business to Fort Worth in 1932.

He graduated from Central High School, now R.L. Paschal. He attended Texas A&M University and Texas Christian University before going on the payroll of Archenhold Automobile Supply Company.

Arch enlisted in the U.S. Army prior to the invasion of Pearl Harbor and graduated from Officer Candidate School, assuming command of a vehicle maintenance company. He served in Texas, Louisiana and California before going overseas to England, France and Occupied Germany, keeping Patton's jeeps and trucks rolling.

He returned home following the war and married the former Helen Ginsburg on April 7, 1946. Mrs. Archenhold died in 1999 after 52 years of marriage.

Arch served as president and CEO of the Archenhold company until it was sold in 1961. He began a highly successful "second career" as a stockbroker with Goodbody. He and the late Frank Kelly opened the Fort Worth office of E.F. Hutton before joining Minton Schmid before retirement.

He was a devoted husband, an exacting father, a patriotic American, an honest businessman and an upright Jew. He was a longtime member of Congregation Beth - El and Colonial Country Club.

Having a keen interest in politics, Arch took an active role in the election campaigns of Rep. Kay Granger and former governor, now President, George W. Bush.

In addition to his wife, Arch was preceded in death by his son, Mike, who also died in 1999.

His family wishes to express particular thanks to Candy Smith and the staff at Broadway Plaza and to Community Hospice of Texas.

Survivors: Sons, Bob Archenhold and his wife, Susan of Fort Worth and Ralph Archenhold of Portland, Ore.; niece and nephews, Leslie Lopin Florsheim and her husband, Sylvan "Yogi" Florsheim of Fort Worth, Marcus "Marc" Lopin Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev. and Harry "Rusty" Lopin of Fort Worth; 50-year family employee, Lillian Storey of Fort Worth; friends and caregiver, Mary Jane Johndroe, Diane Madalin and Sherry Eastman of Fort Worth; and numerous other family members and friends.

I met Arch not too long after being hired by Shearson Lehman Hutton (now Salomon Smith Barney) in November of 1989. He was definitely a "character". He would bring me the best bagel chips I had ever had from a place on Hulen and he always brought me a big tin of cookies at Christmas to share with the office and also a little something for me. He was a very sweet and caring man. When my husband and I were going to be married, he asked to take us to lunch so he could see if my husband met with his approval! Apparently he did, because later he and Helen took us to Colonial for dinner. Arch was definitely "one of a kind" and will be missed by those that knew him.
