Richard Harris Obituary

Richard Leroy Harris, 62, completed his earthly race on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014, and joined many he loved in the presence of Jesus. Memorial service: 2 p.m. Friday at Alta Mesa Church of Christ. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the Harris family suggests memorial donations be made to the Mary Harris Memorial Fund to benefit the students of Mary Harris Intermediate School. Contributions should be sent to Mary Harris Memorial Fund, c/o Crowley ISD Education Foundation, P.O. Box 688, Crowley, Texas 76036. Rick was born on Jan. 25, 1952, in Fort Worth, where he grew up and graduated from Southwest High School. In 1970, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary. Rick attended TCU and graduated from Texas Wesleyan University. He sold insurance for several years and then went to work for General Dynamics. He was scheduled to retire in January, after 28 years of service to Lockheed Martin, where he was a dedicated and well-trusted project manager. Rick adored his family and was committed to serving each of them. He was a loving husband to Mary for 41 years, and he was a selfless father to his daughters, Stephanie and Angela. One of his greatest joys in life was being PawPaw to Elizabeth, Elaine, Charlotte and Olivia. Rick was well known for his ability to make people laugh, to make people feel welcomed and valued, and to give generously. His enthusiasm brought great joy to the lives of many and is certain to live on through those he impacted. Rick was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; daughter, Stephanie; and granddaughter, Charlotte Jane Bassett. Survivors: Daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Justin Bassett; granddaughters, Elizabeth, Elaine and Olivia; parents, Jim and Jackie Harris; brothers, Larry, David and Jeff; and countless other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

So saddened by this news -- never expected this so soon after Mary. I knew them both through school and church -- double dated with them several times. Rejoicing at their reunion, but grieving our loss at the same time. I know that I will see you again. Praying for peace and comfort for those of us you both left behind.

Rick was one of my dearest friends. We had such wonderful times traveling with he and Mary, playing golf and enjoying fine dinners and conversation. Rick showed me that in the face of extreme adversity he never got bitter, he got better. He always looked to his Savior Jesus Christ for strength. He will always be an influence on me and remain in my thoughts.
I pray for the Peace of Jesus to rest on his family and those close to him. I will see you again one day my friend.

Ricky Harris was such an outstanding person, as all the Harris boys. I have fond memories of RIcky and Mary in high School. He was a great football player and she was a cheerleader. He was also my neighbor for many years back in the days of school. Blessings to his entire family. May you all find peace and comfort.

Rick was a truly genuine and nice person who will be deeply missed. He was a great friend in high school and some of my best memories are hanging out at Ricky's house during the summer and Linda and I double dating with Rick and Mary. Even in the toughest times he had an optimistic attitude and an easy smile that made everyone feel at home. God bless him and his family.
