Ruth Barton Obituary

Ruth Martel Barton, 102, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 10, 2014. Graveside service: She will be laid to rest in a private family burial at Greenwood Memorial Park. Born Oct. 14, 1911, in Fort Worth, she was one of five daughters of Eva and Benjamin Martel. Ruth married her high school sweetheart, Fritz Engel Barton, in 1930. Both attended Polytechnic High School. They were active in the Fort Worth community as well as in their church, and for many years they hosted Bible study classes in their home. At the time of Fritz's death they had been married 67 years. Lifelong residents of Fort Worth, they bore two children, Elaine and Fritz Jr. Survivors: Son, Fritz E. Barton Jr. and his wife, Barbara; grandchildren, Lisa Irby Edick, Robert Barton Irby, Kelly Barton Valenta and Fritz E. Barton III; as well as nine great-grandchildren.
