Hello,
I represent PRAYER SHAWLS 4 FALLEN SOLDIERS (PS4FS), an organization that since October 2007 has sent over 2,800 prayer shawls to military families who have lost a loved one. We are an organization of over 240 groups from all over the country. We make every effort to reach families even when post cards are returned after they have moved. Would you kindly send me a contact email/address so that we may send a loving hand-made prayer shawl to the family? Thank you!

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Thomas, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

My prayers to your family and friends. I cannot help but admire your service to our country, as if not for your unselfish commitment to our country for our freedom, who would we have? I have nothing but admiration for your pride and your name will live on as a hero. My son was also blown up by an IED with the 3/4 cav in Mosul on 24May07. He survived and after almost 4 months, he is finally getting out of bed (with assistance). I learned from being in the hospitals, that young men like you are truly special and the effect you have on us and your fellow soldiers will never be forgotten. Your family can be proud and know that you truly believed in what you were doing. Thank-You for your service and the positive impact you have left to us with your sacrifice.

Dear family of Spc.Thomas L. Hilbert, I am so sorry for the loss of your hero. He was a hero in many ways to many people. He was helping to maintain our freedoms and helping to bring freedoms to those that have never known freedom before. I send many packages to contacts listed at AnySoldier.com. Your Thomas, being a volunteer contact for Any Soldier.com, was an angel to many in the field. He cared enough for his unit to help pass out mail to those who maybe did not receive any or as much mail as others. Helping them to know that they were supported, cared for and prayed for by us at home in the USA. What a true hero. Freedom isn’t free.
Thank you Spc.Thomas L. Hilbert. We miss you greatly.
May God’s Holy Spirit grant your family comfort as they progress through grieving for the loss of their very special hero.

My deepest thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends, comrades in arms, and community of Thomas Hilbert. I didn't know Thomas personally but he was very close to someone very special to me. My heart tore in grief when she called from Germany and told me of the death of this close friend of she and her husband and their little baby girl to be born in February. I will tell you all as I told her, remember now that he is watching over your family as if he was with you in person. I pray that as time goes by it will heal the pain of the family and close friends of Thomas and I am truly so sorry for your loss as I shed a tear for all of you right now. May God be with you. Thomas is truly a hero.

I am truly sorry for the loss of Thomas. I know that there are no words that I or anyone else can say to take the pain away. My brother, Cpl. Rhett Butler was killed in Iraq on July 20. Hey Thomas, I'm not sure how to put into words what I'm thinking, but here goes.. I've known you since my 7th, your 8th grade year. I met you in band, we played the flute together. Throughout the years you have always been there with your big smile, and you always had your arms wide open to give me a bear hug and make me feel loved no matter what. I just wanted to thank you for everything you have given me. You will always be a hero. I wish that I could be there, but I will definitely go see you when I get home. Maybe on your way to be with your family and friends today, you can stop by here. I know that you are in a much better place, but we will always miss you down here. I love you Thomas, and I'll see you soon.

Thanks to Thomas' family as well for supporting him in what he wanted to do. Thank you for making that sacrifice for all of us. You all must be heroes as well to make such a hero. Just know as an American soldier and a friend, Thomas, who gave his all, will never be forgotten and his memory will be cherished forever. God Bless.

Thomas, when I told you I loved you I really meant it and what we had meant so much to me. I have so many memories of us still, you will always be in my heart.

Even though I only new Thomas for a few short months, I feel for the loss his passing has brought. I worked with Thomas in Midlothian and though my fondest memory of him was the joke about his smelly feet - though I'm sure he would deny it - I'm know there was much more to this brave young man.
My heart aches for his family and freinds that new him well. I have read the passages from people who knew Thomas and feel that I really missed out on getting to know him better.
I thank you for your service and dedication to freedom, a most noble cause. I will forever be in your debt and will never forget your sacrifce.

Thomas,
I love you so much and I'm so proud of you. You were like a little brother to me. I will never forget you. I will always remember the sarcastic funny boy, that B.J. and her friends use to kid around with. You'll always be in my heart. Be ready for a big hug when I see you again.

Words cannot express how I truly feel aboaut the loss of my young friend Thomas. I first met Thomas the school year 03-04 at Venus High School. The first time I saw this young man I knew what a wonderful person he was for someone so young. I had raised two daughters and wondered how it would have been if our first child (a boy) had lived. I would hope he would have turned out to be a kind, gentle caring individual like Thomas. Although Thomas was not my son I feel a great loss because he was so very special to me. Thomas made me feel so good when he would tell me I was an awesome lady and he liked me, when he could have very easily told me I was just an old woman. I will miss him so much. The last time I saw Thomas, I was so proud of him, he looked so grown up, but he was still a child to me. He will forever be in my memory because there is a hole in my heart that will never let me forget him. I loved this young man so much and still do. If we had more people like Thomas, as the song goes
"What A Wonderful World This Would Be".

God Bless the Hilbert family for raising such a BRAVE young man.

Till we meet again, Thomas.

Oh, so much to say. Thomas was the closest I ever came to having a brother in elementary and middle school. I moved away from Venus after 6th grade and he was the only person that I kept in touch with. Unfortunately we lost contact in the past few years and I did not even know he was in Iraq. The news of his passing touched me very deep. For those of you who did not have the great opportunity of knowing Thomas, you missed out on a truly great kid. One of my only regrets in life is that I didn't really get to be that close with Thomas during his last few years here with us. You will be greatly missed Thomas. I know you are looking down on us. RIP
