You still pop up in my mind and it's hard to believe you are no longer with us. This all happened shortly after our class reunion committee meetings where you're unexpected presence was very needed and appreciated. I'm glad we had the final few weeks to all get to spend with you again and you will forever be in our hearts and minds. Once a Hornet, always a Hornet. Class of 1974

Oh my. I went to track down an old Marine buddy and found this. What a shock! Walter and I went through some unique experiences together. We were in the same boot camp platoon together, stationed in San Diego and later in the same platoon in Officer Candidate School. Two & a half years in total. The Bible says "iron sharpens iron" but most of the time he sharpened me. I witnessed him in some of the most difficult training the U S Marine Corps has to offer, and was amazed at how much guts, drive & tenacity he processed! Walter was truly one of the BEST people I have ever known. The world is a lesser place without him. Also, for the family, I have many pictures and stories to share if interested. I was so fortunate to have known Walt in Fallbrook, he was a great friend to many! Walt knew how to "live", he was such a fantastic and generous and fun person. My hope is for his family to be comforted by Our Father in Heaven.

Kojak...USMC callsign was one of the best. He really cracked us up during the squadron ready room banter. My mom really liked him, probably because she was a Texan. He was the first Dallas Cowboy fan I ever meet. Always saying America's team.
i enjoyed seeing him at the last two reunions. A real cool guy.

Taffy and I were deeply saddened, yesterday, to hear of the news of Walt's passing. I served with him at VMO-2, Camp Pendleton, CA in the mid-1980's. I flew many missions with him in my back seat. He was one of the top Aerial Observors in the USMC. He never failed to take a challenge head on. I was blessed to call him a friend. Unfortunately, when he left active duty, and I moved to a new duty station, I never saw him again. But I have thought about him many times over the years, particularly when I have seen other former squadron mates and we relive stories about those days. Our prayers are with your family. Fair winds and following seas, Kojak. Andy "Amos" Rice, LtCol, USMCR, retired.

Rhonda and family,
I was honored to know and serve with Walt in VMO-2; we deployed together overseas. He was a great squadron mate and always kept the Ready Room alive. Walt lived so large that his departure necessarily will leave a tremendous void. Still we are filled with joy anticipating our reunion in eternity with our Lord...Jesus, the Christ.
With our love, prayers, and condolences...Stan and Honey Norquist

What a life saver coming out to wash away all that just like Jesus came and washed our sins away! Can't wait to see your awesome smile again on streets of gold

Oh my gosh! I went to school with Walther, never saw him again after school, until 2 years ago. He showed up to my business to install a parking stop and I recognized him and we had a good chat. So, so sorry for the loss, but glad he had his wife and partner at this side.

My prayers for the McCarty family during this time of unbearable loss and grief. Walter always had a smile on his face and a hug. I remember him so much as he was a close friend to my brother, DeLynn Welch, who passed on in 2008. When Walter was in the Marines he sent my mother some old silver napkin rings which she treasured and I still have. I know DeLynn and Walter are catching up and having a grand time. Walter was one of a kind. I'm so sorry for your loss, Sherrell Welch Hartwig

I have a million memoried that I could share, but the one I will mentione is this. After helping us move into our house, Walt noticed my son did not have a good tv stand for his room, which none of us mentioned, he just noticed. A couple weeks later, he called, he had purchased an entertainment center for him and delviered it to our door. He was a fixer, no question about it.
There are so many things we will miss about Walt, but most of all his loyal friendship. Walt left a giant fingerprint every where he went, impacting so many lives. I believe he is only just beginning to hear all of the "thank you's" for the lives he impacted and I know, someday, we will join him again. Until then, farewell our faithful friend.

Ronda, Jason & Josh, I was so schocked to hear about Walt, I just could not believe it. I am so glad that You all was at the Chapel Sunday and I got to see him. HE was a great man. He was always ready to help some one when they needed help. He will really be missed. All of you are in my Thoughts and Prayers.
Love you all,
Pauline

May the Good Lord Bless the McCarty family. I knew Walter as a fellow classmate back at Castleberry High in 1974. I will always remember how fast he was when he ran Track. Nobody could catch him. He was one of the best athletes ever at Castleberry High. He was a good friend, he always had a wonderful smile and he always helped others. My sincere condolences, I will Pray the Rosary for the family, We will miss you Walter.
