Funeral: 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Forest Lawn Chapel, the Rev. Bob Shields and Dr. Jon Green officiating. Visitation: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Lawn.
Pallbearers will be Bob Branson, Ray Chumbley, Bruce Krueger, Jim Mooney, John Pulliam and Victor Scherer. Honorary pallbearers will be LaVonne Norton, Mark Chalker and Doug Leitch.
Memorials: If desired, memorials may be sent to Trinity United Methodist Church, 3430 Harrison Ave., Beaumont, Texas 77706.
Bill Getts was born Oct. 11, 1925, in Ranger, the son of Claudia and Harold Getts, now deceased. Following graduation from Ranger High School in 1943, he entered the U.S. Army Air Corps and served in the European Theater in World War II. The highlight of his military service was assisting in the Air Transport Command transportation of the Potsdam Conference.
After serving his country, he attended Ranger Junior College, Sam Houston State University and graduated from The University of Houston in 1951. Bill was elected the very first president of the Ranger Alumni Association in 1975. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Bill owned and operated Getts Insurance Agency in Houston for 34 years.
Survivors: Wife of 54 years, Joyce Neal Getts; sister, Barbara Getts of Fort Worth; sister-in-law, Phyllis Neal Smith and husband, Carl Lane Smith; nephews, Howard Neal Smith and family, Dr. Joel Lane Smith and family and Kirby Todd Smith and family of San Antonio.
