Alexander Spangler Obituary

Spangler Alexander Spangler, a longtime resident of Hilliard Ohio, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2013. One of 14 children of William and Jane, Alex was born on June 14, 1926. Alex was a devoted friend and family man who knew how to work and play hard. He was the founder of Spangler Construction, and a role model who taught all of us the importance of hard work, family, and to live life to its fullest. He knew how to have fun whether it was going on vacations, cruising in new cars or going to the races, snowmobiling, building and flying model airplanes, playing golf, cheering on the Buckeyes, spending time with family or entertaining companyyou could count on love and laughter in his presence. Alex was proud of his family and the life he led. "I lived a great life and I loved every minute of it!" His legacy will live on in each of us and thoughts of him will bring us joy as we do what he asked: "I hope you all live a long and happy life." Alex is preceded in death by son Jerry Spangler. Survived by sisters, Audrey, Margaret and Rachel; loving wife, of 42 years, Rose. step daughters, Carol (Dale) Strapp, Debby (Art) Travis. daughter in law; Jean Adkins, daughter; Sherry Statczar; grandchildren; Julie (Saul) Lugo, Todd (Jennie), Trent (Kristal), Troy (Kelly) Statczar, Heather, Jamie and Aaron Strapp, Kyle, Kirsty and Koby Bateman; and 12 great grandchildren, Logan, Hayden and Austin Lugo, Alexandra, Madeline, Sophia, Grant, Zack, Molly, Claire and Troy Statczar, and Jason Whicker; multiple nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Although I didn't know Mr. Spangler well, as a long-time friend of his daughter, Sherry, I had the opportunity to see him on various family occasions. He was always kind, funny, and made everyone feel welcome.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family today.

I met Alex when I was 16 and working at the lumber company.He liked my work so much that he kept me with him instead of putting me in the hot rail cars to unload lumber.He did not make to many people happy with that move,but the I got to meet his boy Jerry (Spanky)They sure was a fun loving family
