Allan Buller Obituary

Buller Allan R. Buller, 95, of Worthington, passed away at home Saturday, March 23, 2013, holding the hand of his wife Mickey and surrounded by other family. He was born December 2, 1917 in Morse, Saskatchewan, Canada to the late Jacob and Stella Buller, who later emigrated to South Dakota and then Michigan. Allan attended grade school in Michigan, graduated from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, and later received an MBA at OSU. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a staff sergeant. At 24, and supervising a staff of 8, he accomplished in 1 month the complete stocking of a 1400-bed military field hospital. He married college sweetheart Mickey Walberg in 1942. After the war, they moved to Worthington for Allan's new job at Worthington Foods, where he joined an innovative team of pioneers in the vegetarian food industry. He was CEO of Worthington Foods when he retired in 1985, and continued with the company on their Board of Trustees. He was a longtime member of the Worthington Seventh-day Adventist Church and was instrumental in planning and building both churches and the associated school. Allan was a great accomplisher; he worked hard and played hard. He was a fan of any OSU Buckeye team, and was a lifelong golfer, once playing in a dream foursome with Jack Nicklaus and Bob Hope. He was a founding member of the Worthington Prayer Breakfast, and a member of the Worthington Chamber of Commerce, Lions, Rotary Club, Harding Evans Foundation and many other organizations. He was involved in a wide range of charitable projects, too many to list; all were close to his heart. He was a great traveler; with his wife, he traveled to 50 states and 48 countries on 6 continents. He was very active in hiking, camping, and planning the famous "annual family vacation". He enjoyed carpentry, a skill he learned from his father. He kept an immaculate yard and was proud to win "Yard of the Month". Allan was a devoted and loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Lloyd Buller and sisters Verda Trickett and Bertha Steeger. He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Mickey; daughters, C.B. Buller, Jann Buller (John Curran), Suzy Juarros (Thom); and son, Allan "Al" G. Buller; and grandchildren, Amanda Crump, Sierra Juarros (Chris Arnett), and Savannah Juarros. Friends are invited to visit with family on Thursday, March 28, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High St., Worthington. A celebration of Allan Buller's life will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the Worthington Seventh-day Adventist Church, 385 E. Dublin-Granville Rd., Worthington. I remember well that Alan and my late husband, Ken Schelske shared a sack lunch each week to discuss and pray for the Worthingon SDA church.

What a true "gentleman." Our time in Worthington (Columbus) and our association with the church there would have all been worth it if Allan was the only person we met. I am sadden by his passing, but know that only a few in this life have the impact he had. He will be missed, but his example with be a treasure to many and his legacy will touch many more.

Knowing and experiencing and just being around this gentle man has been a gift. Watching his many talents of giving in all ways has been a true experience that one does not see often. He was among the others that drew together a community (Worthington) in helping to create what it is today. He gave of himself to the church sharing God from their home and giving of himself through the venue of many other worthy projects. There is a myriad of accolades that can be given to him but I see one of his greatest is in the way that he conducted himself through, for and by his God that filtered through his home life along with his life mate, Mickey. Their children and grandchildren are a testament to how they lived their lives...together in God. I am so thankful for his sharing his life, being the upright gentleman in God that he was, so that others have been inspired by their observance of him and seeing the results that his life portrayed. God bless you, his family in going forward without him in your sorrow, but, your solace is that one day, when he next opens his eyes he will be looking into the face of Jesus.! Much love.

Having grown up in Worthington and attended church services and school with some of Mr. Buller's children, I remember having a very clear impression that he was an honest, fair, upstanding Christian Gentleman. My thoughts and prayers are with all those who loved him!

To all of the Buller Family, Mr Buller always treated me like a member of the family and never like hired help. He always included me in his prayers and I felt blessed by that. This whole family means the world to me and if I can do anything for any of you please let me know. God bless you all and give you strength during these times. Bari Vanderveer

It was a pleasure working with Allan over the last several years, and I know that he touched many lives with his zest for living. He always had many great stories and insights to share and was a pleasure to be around. He was one of the good ones.

I met and knew Allan via the Dublin-Worthington Rotary Club. Whenever I have thought of him it is of a very kind and gentle man and gentleman in the sense of being proper, fair, considerate and honorable. It has been a great pleasure to have known him.
