Anthony Serio Obituary

SERIO Anthony A. Serio, 82, of Columbus, passed away peacefully at home on February 22, 2012. Tony was born on September 26, 1929, to the late Antonio and Anna Serio. His oldest sister, Carmela (Serio) Westhoff passed away in Bristol, PA, within hours of his passing. Tony is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Rose Anne (Saunders) Serio; sister, Fran (Serio) Shea of Bristol, PA; brother, Pete Serio of Tarpon Springs, FL; daughters, Janet Serio (Chuck), Jean Serio (Lon), Becky (Serio) Schwinn (Dave), Peggy (Serio) Mulligan (Patrick); son, Tony Serio, Jr.; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Tony was preceded in death by his sister Lena Serio. Tony was a well respected masonry contractor for 40 years, and retired in 1989. He was a long-time member of Maple Grove United Methodist Church. Tony loved gardening, cooking Italian foods, and most of all, his family. Although we will miss him greatly, we know that he is with his family members that have gone before him. Our deepest regards to the family. Although my husband David had not seen him for quite awhile, he will always remember the Sunday dinners and how there, according to him, were never enough meatballs. He will always be thought of with love and will be missed terribly.

I will always remember the great times we had at East Linden UM Church. How about those huge thrift sales we had! I have recently connected with Janet, as we are both helping a lady in a nursing home. She has been catching me up with some family info. I understand Tony jr. is a great cook. -- A thought to share -- I was given a decoratin container and I put all the cards & notes I received in it. Then as I found things that were meaninful I added them to the container. Things like his lapel pin, keys, business cards, specific pictures, etc. These helped me though the rough times and now are great reminders of the good times. I just added another item last night. Serio family - My thoughts are with you.

I had the great and humbling experience of working for Tony for a summer back in 1975 when I was down on my luck and fresh out of high school. I tended for Tony as he masterfully constructed the stonework for the Bluffs as well as the original Muirfield housing, including Jack Nicklaus' house. We built the largest fireplace I have ever seen there, up from the basement through two more floors onto the roof. He was a true craftsman. We listened to the Reds every day, and Tony bought me more than my share of lunch, picked me up and dropped me off. He didn't say much, as it was usually just he & I in that summer, but we had some great talks about baseball. I also attended high school with his daughter, Becky, who I remember fondly. I just wanted to offer my condolences and thank him for teaching me hard work has a price AND a reward. He'd probably be proud to know I spent two tours with the Marines after he got me 'in shape'. His stonework has and will continue to stand the test of time. My most respectful condolences to his family & friends. If you ever want to visit Tony, take a drive through Muirfield - he did all that original stonework....I know I did, and I took my kids & grandkids too.
