Carolyn Darling Obituary

DARLING Carolyn Rose Miceli Darling, 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 4, 2010, at The Forum at Knightsbridge in Columbus. No one could hope for a better mother than "Kay," as she was known to friends and family. She was maternal love personified: supportive, upbeat, and gracious. She was always there for a child, whether it was reading, bringing home a monkey or a turtle, going to the swimming pool, preparing for spelling bees, scouting, or raising flowers and vegetables. She is greatly missed by her children, Stanton G. Darling II (Julie A. Carroll Darling), of Worthington, and Kaye Michele Darling, of Columbus; and her grandchildren, Burgundie M. Miceli, of Columbus, Stanton G. Darling III (Heather Crawford Darling), of Powell, and Stephen M. Darling, of Columbus. Kay grew up in Mount Morris, a small town in upstate New York. She worked and saved money for a year after high school and was thus able to convince her strict Sicilian father that she was sufficiently serious about higher education to merit his financial and moral support. Kay entered Ohio State in the fall of 1938. At the freshman mixer, she met Stanton G. Darling, a young man from Loudonville, Ohio. They were married in Little Rock, Arkansas, on March 21, 1942, and were inseparable until his death on February 6, 2005. She operated a well-known business, Kay Darling Antiques, beginning in 1956. She was active in antique-oriented organizations, including the Heisey Collectors of America, and served as Cultural Director of St. John's Catholic Church. For many years, both her antique shop and her husband's law office were located at 3442 N. High Street in Clintonville. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Sandy Schmidt and the staff of the Forum's Bridge to Rediscovery unit for their loving devotion to and care of Kay in her last years. Friends may call at SOUTHWICK-GOOD & FORTKAMP FUNERAL CHAPEL, 3100 N. High St. Monday 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ladislas Catholic Church, 277 Reeb Ave. Father John Stattmiller, Celebrant.
