Chuck,

It doesn't seem possible that you have been gone now for 3 years. I can still feel your passion about life, your great sense of humor, your kindnesses to everyone and your determination to survive against all odds. I was so blessed to know you; you were always my idol, my role model, my friend. I will always hold you close to me, in a very special place in my heart. I miss you terribly and hope that someday I may be half as brave and strong and loving as you were in life and in death.

I love you Chuck, my big brother, my dearest friend; and I always will,

Charlotte

Charlotte, We were all thinking of Chuck at Thanksgiving. We had to have a toast to him; he was so thankful for his life and friends last year. It was a joy to have him at dinner last year. Now the Latino celebration is coming up at my mother;s church and we are thinking of you and Harry. We hope you guys are well and happy and that your kids can make it home for the holidays.
Love, Ray

Chuck and I were friends in the early 70's. He lived in a one room cabin built on stilts with a wall of windows that looked out over Mike and Linda Sexton's pasture and Chimacum valley on the Olympic Peninsula. Chuck used the area under the cabin as a work space. I remember a beautiful old carpenter's tool cabinet with sliding drawers and many boxes that Chuck kept under his cabin. Chuck was proud of his tool cabinet and went to show it off to me. When he opened it up we found that the field mice had filled every nook and cranny in the cabinet with seeds. One of many delightful experiences we shared during the year we were together. I will remember him always.

We knew him as "Chas". Our paths first crossed when he responded to an offer I'd made on Freecycle. Then later he adopted a dog from us, a beautiful shepherd mix we called "Duke", but who Chas renamed "Niko". We met again when I sold a small digital camera to him. The last email I received was in June 2008. Niko was doing well, and Chas loved him. I am sorry I didn't stay in contact through email or phone.
I just found out today about Chas' passing from the ex-wife of the man who adopted his cockatoo. We were talking about our birds, and she mentioned her ex had recently adopted a 'too named Elliot that had belonged to a man who had died of cancer. My heart sunk! I knew it was Chas.
My deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends. Chas was a kind, dear, intelligent, amazing man.
If anyone has information on the whereabouts of Niko, I would very much like to hear from you. I would love to welcome him back to our family. Or to at least know where he is and to be able to stay in touch with his new family.

I have thought of Chuck often over the years. He brought me a piece of ART from Samoa. I think of him each time I look at it.
Having been lucky enough to have been the little kid next door to the Giovenetti Family in the 1960's I have many memories of Chuck.
It was Chuck that taught me how to use a gas lawnmower. I spent a bit of time walking between his legs "helping" him push the mower.
He taught me how to sink a nail while "helping" him build the addition on his Mothers house. He built a wonderdul hutch for my Guinea Pigs as my pay for that "help".
What I really learned from his example was patience with childern. They need to learn and they have long memories.
I have tried to have patience and teach the childern in my world from his example.
My heart goes out to his Family and all who miss him.

Chuck's love of life is one of his lasting legacies. He shared it with all who crossed his path. This is a terrible, terrible loss, but I hope comfort can be found in knowing that Chuck's generous and loving spirit lives on in everyone who had the good fortune to know him.

What a great memorial to Chuck. The character traits that I remembered while playing sports with Chuck at PWHS certainly were manifested in all areas of his life. I look forward to the gathering in May.

Chuck and I went to grade school and high school together. I still remember his voice and laughter. I had hoped to see him at our school reunion last fall. I didn't know he was ill. Time and miles have separated us. I never knew him as a grown man, but I am not surprised at all he achieved or how well he was thought of by others. My sympathy to all who knew and loved him.

I just found out yesterday that Chuck has left this world behind and moved on to the next... I expect that he will find the next world as loving, fun and interesting as he found this one to be.

I hope all of Chuck's family and his myriad of friends find comfort in the memories of knowing Chuck and enjoying his company while he was here. I know I do.

I met chuck through a simple garage sale my best friend Nancy and I were giving (her letter shows earlier in this book). Little did I know that I would find a treasured friend that day.
Within a week Chuck had become an integral part of my life.

I found a kindred soul in Chuck. I feel honored to have shared a small part of his life and learned a few lessons from his wonderful point of view.

Here's to you Chuck......
All humans should have such a friend......

Thank you for your time and your caring, Sir.

Dear Chuck,
Are you making the angels smile with your wit and wisdom?
We missed having you in our lives for many years and were so glad when you called out of the blue one day. We picked up like it was yesterday. Thank you for all your interesting and offbeat conversations over the years. I sure wish we could have had so many more of them. We will miss you and think of you often. I have often said to Hank "you know Chuck reminds me of a cross between Dr. Emmett Brown and George Carlin." I never told you that but I thought they were both such interesting characters, like you. So smart and so funny. I know that you would have enjoyed the comparison.
With much love, Bev

Chuck was a fine, fine individual. I enjoyed his company and am very sorry to hear of his passing. Chuck and I graduated from Britten School together in Westchester, Ill and also from Proviso West H.S. in Hillside, Ill. May he rest in peace. The world will be a far sadder place without him.

I am deeply saddened to hear of chucks passing. He was an amazing and multi-talented man. I met him while living on Caniff. He was always there to offer assistance and advice. I thoroughly enjoyed conversing with him regularly about his experiences and positive outlook on life. At face value, few would guess what an amazing romantic and intellectual lived withing Chas.
When my father passed away suddenly this fall; He sent me poetry and sent a card to my mother whom he had never met. He continued to help me with my home, long after I moved far from Caniff. Chucks big heart, mind and spirit will be missed by many. I will continue to remember him fondly. My deepest sympathies to his family and friends.

I am truly grief stricken to hear of Chuck’s passing.

Chuck introduced himself to me one afternoon when my friend Joe I and were having a garage sale. He was interested in several items I had and purchased a late 1800’s framed map of the islands South of Florida where he said he had done quite a bit of scuba diving, he said it brought back many fond memories. He also purchased some copper pots and pans which if I recall correctly were to become part of one of those “bigger projects” of a kitchen remodel.

Later in the day when things had slowed down and we were beginning our cleanup he returned and he was eager to let me know that he would be willing to come and get any leftovers I had, I could merely put them at the curb and he would be happy to haul them away. That was the beginning of my friendship with Chuck.

I must admit that I may have been a major contributor to some of “Chuck’s collecting” because later when he returned to my home for the leftovers he spotted my “block and tackle” and purchased them. (Boy was he excited about that, he was already planning what things he could move, and I was amazed to hear and see the results, I think the big stump might be one of those huge accomplishments.)

( I’m also afraid to admit that it was me who shared with him the information about “freecycle.”)

From that day on Chuck became a great friend (who just happened to be in the neighborhood). He was always a welcome guest and early on visited with Apollo (when he was his only dog). He joined us for parties and cookouts and we shared stories as well as plants and vegetables from our gardens.

Being a guest in his home was always an adventure. Enjoying his menagerie of beloved pets, listening to his interesting stories and evoking memories by asking questions about items such as the beautifully painted/decorated motorcycle helmet. (That helmet alone brought on a whole evening of reminiscing about some wonderful times he had experienced.)

He is already greatly missed.

Friend and neighbor,
Nancy

Chuck and I have a great friendship for nearly 30 years or so now, and I will be missing him very much now. Chuck was a good friend because of his kindness and sincerety and I enjoyed his love of life and his friends.
In this world we all perish, although I am looking forward to Chuck's resurrection when we will be able to share our smiles and laughter again.
Good bye for now my beloved friend.

I am so sorry about the loss of your kindred spirited brother. I can only imagine how you must be feeling, he was so lucky to have had a sister so loving and giving as you. He was fortunate to have lived his life with you and Harry in it, I can only imagine the hour and hours of laughs you two were able to give him in his life. Zach and I love you, we are here for you when you are ready. God bless you.
