Herman Bowden Obituary

BOWDEN Herman K. Bowden, age 78, passed away February 22, 2009 and Hazel L. Bowden, age 85, passed away September 4, 2009. Both had been beloved residents at Westminster Thurber Community where they spent their final years together. Hazel and Herman were married for 51 wonderful years. They had lived in the city of Whitehall for over 20 years where they had many dear friends. During the Korean War, Herman served our country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1951. He retired from the North American Boeing Corporation. He was an active member of the Whitehall VFW. Survived by Hazel's daughter, Florence McCalla (Joseph) of Pennsylvania; Herman's sister, Joanne Giles of Maryland; and many nieces, nephews; grandchildren; and great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, November 19, 2009 in the chapel at Westminster Thurber Community, 717 Neil Avenue. Officiating will be Mark Arni, Chaplain at Westminster Thurber and Len Martin, Chaplain for Odyssey Hospice. A special thanks to the staff at Westminster Thurber and Odyssey Hospice for all the wonderful care extended to the Bowdens. A private burial will be at a later date. Arrangements by EGAN-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 403 East Broad Street.
