Ida Reid Obituary

Reid Ida Marie Reid, age 94, died peacefully in the presence of her loving family, and passed on to her Heavenly reward on May 24, 2014. She was born March 29, 1920 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Arthur and Minnie Battelle. Ida lived a life full of sadness and joy. Her mother was tragically taken from her when she was 7 years old. She also worked over 40 years at Scioto Downs and Beulah Park. She was an avid card player, enjoyed playing Bingo and loved betting on the horses. She was preceded in death by her husband Gontran A. Reid, nine brothers and sisters Helen Edward Diane Charles Della Edna Louise James and Jeanette, daughter-in-law Sue Shanelec Reid and best friend Viola Wells. She is survived by her children, Dennis (Carol) Reid, Susan Reid Mullins (companion Doug Hoobler) and Thomas (Patti) Reid; eight grandchildren, Lisa Owens, Michelle (Todd) Mates, Damean Mullins, Anna (Brian) Bayes, Anthony (Gracie) Reid, Elizabeth Reid (Chris Fritz), Katie Reid, Kristen Reid; three great-grandchildren, John Michael Owens, Haley Riddlebarger (Jimmy Dillon), Christian Reid Bayes; and two great-great-grandchildren, Adrian Loos and Khloe Dillon; dear friend, Marge Thomas; many good friends over the years from Grovewood Place and White Castle; as well as many nieces and nephews. Family will welcome friends 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at SCHOEDINGER GROVE CITY CHAPEL, 3920 Broadway, Grove City, OH 43123. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 3730 Broadway, Grove City, OH 43123; interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Ida was a kind and wonderful woman. I had the opportunity to play basketball with her son, Tom at Bishop Ready and she was always supportive. Ida and her husband always drove us around town to play basketball, go to the movies and to the track.

She was always upbeat and lived with enthusiasm every day. I was blessed to know her.

God Bless

The Next Room

Death is nothing at all, I have only slipped
away into the next room. I am I, and you are you.
What ever we were to each other, that
we still are. Call me by my old familiar name,
speak to me in the easy way which you
always used. Put no difference in your tone,
wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes
we enjoyed together. Pray, smile, think of me,
pray for me. Let my name be the household word
that it always was. Let it be spoken without effect,
without the trace of a shadow on it. Life means
all that it ever meant, It is the same as it ever was;
there is unbroken continuity, Why should I be
out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere
very near, just round the corner.
All is well.

You were an amazing lady Grammy. I love you so much and I will always keep you in my heart. I'm so happy that I got the chance to have my great grandmother in my life for a little over 21 years. You were such a joy to have in my life and I have so many great and funny memories of you. You always made all of us laugh. Thank you for all the advice you have given me about my wedding and I promise I will follow what you have said. I know you will be there in spirit Grammy. I love you so much!

I have been blessed in life to have known truly special people. Ida Reid is at the top of that list. From the time I was in third grade to the day she dropped Tom and I off at college in the middle of Kansas and now to her journey to heaven she always had a smile, always an encouraging word and best peanut and jelly sandwich I have ever had. This dear lady would want us to fill our empty hearts with happy memories to help us find a smile. I thank her for sharing a part of her with me, it has made me a better person. I will remember your laughter and your love of life.
