Jake Hanson Obituary
1997 - 2021
Jake R. Hanson, 23, passed away March 14, 2021. Jake was born on May 21, 1997 in Columbus to Denise DePalma and the late Rich Hanson. Jake was a 2016 graduate of Bishop Hartley High School and in his final semester at Ohio State. Jake was a loyal friend with a thoughtful soul, generous spirit and kind heart. He was an adventurer who loved spending time outdoors and traveling. We will miss his boyish laugh, twinkling blue eyes and bear hugs. Jake is survived by his mother, Denise DePalma; brother, Justin Hanson; sister, Samantha Hanson; grandparents, Herb and Linda Godby, Don and Barb DePalma, Rick Hanson and Kitty (deceased) and John Gatrell; girlfriend, Cassidy Whetro; several aunts, uncles, cousins and a community of beloved friends. Jake's family will receive friends on Friday, March 26, 2021 from 3-7pm at the Cotner Funeral Home, 7369 E. Main St., Reynoldsburg. His funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 11am at St. John XXIII Catholic Church, 5170 Winchester Southern Rd. NW, Canal Winchester. A Celebration of Life for Jake will also be held in May 2021. In lieu of flowers, Jake's family welcomes donations to create an outdoor memorial in his name as a place to gather to remember him (gofundme.com/f/jake-hanson-memorial).

Dear Hanson Family,
We, the families of The Compassionate Friends, send you our heartfelt condolences. The Compassionate Friends is an international grief support group for parents, grandparents and siblings who have suffered the heartbreaking loss of a child. Our only mission is to provide comfort, hope and support to every family experiencing the death of a son or daughter, brother or sister, or grandchild, and to help others better assist the grieving family. We meet twice monthly in Columbus from 7-9 PM on the second Tuesday and 2-4 PM on the fourth Sunday at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1479 Morse Road, Columbus, Ohio 43229. If and when you are ready to do so, please join us. We need Not Walk Alone. We are The Compassionate Friends.
