James R. Penwell Sr.

Penwell James R. Penwell, Sr., 78, of Baltimore, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 17, 2016 in Palm Bay, Florida. Jim served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean Campaign. He later became a member of Grace Ministries Church where he served as a trustee for many years. One of his greatest joys was sharing his faith with others and teaching them to accept the true meaning of God's grace. He was dedicated in teaching the word of God and leading others to grow spiritually. As the church grew, he was called to lead the Nehemiah team in the construction of the children's wing of the church. Along with that, Jim took pride in helping to maintain the beauty of the church grounds. James was preceded in death by his first wife Carol, brother Daniel Joseph Penwell and sister Mary Elizabeth Weaver. Jim is survived by his wife, Roberta "Bobbi" Penwell; son, James R. Penwell, Jr.; grandchildren, April (Olin) Padgett and James C. (Rachel) Penwell; five great-grandchildren; brother, David Andrew Penwell; sister, Alice Combs; and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 12 at COTNER FUNERAL HOME, 7369 E. Main St., Rerynoldsburg. Funeral 11 a.m. with viewing preceding at 10 a.m. Friday, May 13 at Grace Ministries Church, 464 Rathmell Rd., Lockbourne. Burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, West Jefferson.
