Janice Alder Obituary

Alder Janice Shoemaker Alder, age 93, died peacefully March 4, 2016 at her home at Elmcroft Assisted Living Facility. Janice was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1922 where she resided until 1987. She worked at Ohio State University in the International Students Office and also worked for Dr. Bernard Dennison, Sr. in his dental practice. She moved to Pinehurst, NC in 1987. She is survived by her daughters, Vikki Priest (Mark) and Wendy Wonnell; grandchildren, Jamie Gordon (Ed), Katie Wilson (Steve), Matthew and Michael Nevin; great-grandchildren, Knox and Gage Gordon, and Andrew Wilson; brother, Fred Shoemaker; sisters, Norma Boos (Judd), Pat Toronto, Marilyn Potts; and sister-in-law Marty Shoemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband Jay Flowers in 1985 and later, husband Bernie Alder, who died in 2001, father and mother Christopher and Kathryn Shoemaker, and brothers Christopher and Donald Shoemaker, and sisters Dorothy Abbott, Kathryn Green, Loretta Early and Betty Dennison. Janice's contagious smile, entertaining sense of humor and easy laugh will be greatly missed. Her 93 years were filled with numerous interest and hobbies; she enjoyed oil painting, was well traveled and loved to read. Most of all, she loved her family; cherished time spent with her grandchildren and then her great grandchildren. She was a patient, kind, generous and loving mother, wife, sister, grandmother and GG. The gift of her love will be missed! The family would like to thank the staff of Elmcroft Assisted Living Facility for their concern and care during the past 12 months; we sincerely appreciate you.
