I think about jesse all the time. Could he play the guitar? I could watch him play for hours. Jesse never flowned, I could be having a bad day. Talk to him, through one sentence and I would be smiling, laughing, and spitting upon myself. What a funny guy. You have gone on to bigger and better things. You will always be remembered here.

Will we see you guys at the Fallen Heros Memorial in Sunbury, Ohio on Saturday? Unfortunately our kids are gone, but we will see them again. THAT is encouraging. I'm sure you can't wait to see Jesse.

I just attended the Brook Park "Ohio Flags of Honor" ceremony and the names of 275 fallen heroes were announced, one by one. I was in complete shock when I heard the name "Balthaser" because it is not a common name.
I am so very sorry for your loss and wish I would have had the chance to meet your brave son. We all need to remember our fallen heroes and thank them for our precious freedom! Freedom is not free!

I served alongside Jesse Balthaser during his first tour in Iraq 2006-2007. He always had a sense of humor, and always found a way to make the best of a bad situation. Always the one to boost morale. Watched him grow from a young PFC to an experienced Marine, and though not a Grunt could fool any outsiders looking in. Semper Fi, buddy. You will not be forgotten by those who've served besides you, and your death shall not be in vain.

I went to school with Jesse and never had a personal relationship with him but I always respected him because I knew his goal was to become a Marine. He was a bright and beautiful person that had the most awesome smile. I have my yearbook to remember him and even next to his picture it says that his goal was to be a marine. Thank you for giving your life to protect our country and contribute to the freedom I have everyday! You are definately someone that will never be forgotten!

to Jesse's family-
I am deeply saddened to hear about Jesse. We knew each other for a short time at Ready, even so Jesse left an impression on me as being a happy person with a caring heart, talented on the guitar, and of course very funny. Erin, I wish you and your little girl the best. It is sometimes easy to forget that we are at war in a land far away, but I will never forget Jesse and what he did for his country. For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you .

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to SGT. Jesse Balthaser our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Jesse. And to Jesse it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Jesse, you are a brave Marine Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,335 Legionnaire Veterans of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Jesse’s family and loved ones. Semper Fi !

What a sad sad day when we lay someone to rest, but especially someone so young with so much ahead of them. He may be gone from the physical world, but he is above watching over his family and friends until you see each other again. He died a true hero. Please know that your entire family are in our thoughts and prayers. We did not have the honor of knowing Jesse, but knew many people who did and every person said the same thing - what an amazing individual he is. His spirit will surely carry on in all of you, as well as his daughter.

Mr. and Mrs. Balthaser,

I did not know your son, but I understand your son attended school at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. This past Sunday, as the congregation offered prayers to you and your family I realized that as a fellow American your son give our country the ultimate sacrifice, his life, and our Heavenly Father gave us all the ultimate sacrifice in His Son, Jesus Christ. Your son has given his life for his country and Christ gave his life so that we could all be saved by grace. May the peace and love of our Lord Jesus Christ comfort you and your family during your time of sorrow.

I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

The best thing about knowing Jesse was knowing Jesse. He could aggravate you or make you laugh. Sometimes he could do both. Knowing Jesse was an investment in your time and energy. Thank you Jesse for your energy that I got to know. Always in my thoughts and in my heart.

I am sorry for the loss of your son and my prayers are with you. I feel that your son died protecting others and for protecting his country. I have a son in the military and it touches me to hear of the soldiers that have to die protecting us. My heart feels very heavy for you but with the love of Jesus, time will lift the load. I am very proud of our service men and what they do. You will feel honored to have had a son in the military, when the load has been lifted. You are in my prayers.
