John Washington Obituary

WASHINGTON John R. Washington, 80, died Sunday, November 4, 2007, at Kobacker House. Born and raised in "Flytown", the youngest child of the late Walter C. and Alice Fields Washington. He was preceded in death by his brothers Lawrence, Paul, and Donald Washington and his sisters Lillian Thompson, Genevieve Washington, Rachel Zimmerman, and Esther Washington. He ran track at Central High School and The Ohio State University, served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and retired from DCSC in 1989 as a contract officer. John was involved in The Franklin County Genealogical & Historical Society, Hague-Harris Block watch, and served as a chess coach at Maize and Linden Elementary Schools. He also played tennis with "Forty Love" and "Wolfe Pack". He is survived by sisters, Mary Winbush and Dorothy Webb; extended family sisters, Flora Foster and Hazel Harris; first cousins, Harriet Holmes, Beulah Stovall, Mary B. Robinson, Joan Jones, and Earl Fields; sister-in-law, Mildred Washington; special friends, Gail Thornburg and Jeff Hunter; and many nephews, nieces, other cousins, and friends. Friends may call Tuesday, November 13 at 10 a.m., with service at 11 a.m. at Caliman Funeral Home, 3700 Refugee Rd., with interment at Green Lawn Cemetery. Special thanks to caregiver, Mark Peterson, and HomeReach Hospice. my family reaches out to yours on the great loss of "uncle john" i have never met anyone in my life like john he never knew a stranger and was so kind to children he made a big impact on mine and for 20 years mine and my husbands life we love and miss you john and we will see yea again.

John we will all miss you very much. You are always have a place in my heart. Everyone loved you. I will miss calling you up and just talking about stupid stuff and making funny jokes. I love you john I knew you for 22 years and are more like a uncle to me then anything else. My heart goes out to the family cause they lost a very good person. I love you uncle john.

Mr. Washington will be missed greatly. He was always a friend to us when we were young kids and a friend when we got older. His cheerful disposition and love for life kept a smile on all our faces. Having such a nice person right around the corner was a privledge.
