Joe, thanks for all the ornery laughs you gave us while allowing us to provide you with TLC over these last years. Beth..... what an amazing wife and caregiver you were! Thank you for entrusting Joe to us sometimes -- we love you both!

Beth, I am so sorry to hear of Joe's passing. I remember the first time I came over to your house to look at a small project and how great I thought Joe was. Then every other time, talking and laughing with him. Over the years it was hard to watch the problems Joe was having, but I could always see the real Joe coming through. Your patience and devotion made life for him very good. I don't know what guided me turn to that page in the newspaper today and to look under the letter S, but I am glad I did. I would have been very sad if I had not known. My thought and prayers will be with you and your family.

Beth, so many times I think how my life would have turned out if Uncle Joe (as the fellas fondly called him) had not taken a personal interest in counseling, advising, and at times, correcting me beyond the class room. In looking back, the Columbus Public School system got it right when they hired and strategically placed him in an area of at risk youths. I imagine that many times he was frustrated that he was not getting through to me, but in retrospect, he accomplished more with me than any school teacher ever did. I was at times frustrated by his quick wit to respond to a joke, yet, often it turned out to be a thought provoking comment that challenged me to think out side the box. I say for myself and the fellas that we will miss Uncle Joe. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. Sherman C. Green (I.O.E Class of 1975)

Dear Beth,
We are so very sorry to learn of Joe's passing. I have many fond memories of Joe-- like his insightful contributions at Wed. Eve Book Study a few years ago-- but most of all, his warmth, sincerity and smiles with which he always greeted my family and me at church. You are close in our hearts and prayers during this difficult time.
Love,

Beth and family - It's been quite a journey - and I'm sure not always an easy one. Still, I recall that Joe's sense of humor could not be ignored. Loved the twinkle in his eyes when he smiled at you on the occasions I was around. Clearly, you knew love - and lived it with great patience and dignity together to the end. Well done....both of you.
