Joyce Stauffer Obituary
STAUFFER Joyce Annette Stauffer, of Columbus, past away Monday, February 16, 2005 at her home after a very lengthy illness with ovarian cancer. Born November 7, 1942 in Lima, Ohio to the late Warren and Audrey Stauffer. Joyce attended Kenton City Schools and Columbus State College. She served her country in the United States Navy. She was stationed at Norfolk Naval Base in Virginia where she was the first female Sports Editor of U.S.N. Tidewater Dope Sheet Newspaper. Joyce returned to Ohio where she was quite busy in real estate and insurance. After her graduation from Columbus State College, she worked at Mount Carmel Medical Center West as a cardio-pulmonary respiratory technician for 22 years. Joyce loved sports and remained a loyal fan for the Cleveland Indians and the Browns, but the OSU Buckeyes football team remained #1 in her heart. Joyce was also an advocate for animals, especially dogs and cats. She sheltered many strays over the years; if she couldn't keep one for whatever reason, she would find a good home for it. Joyce is survived by her life-time partner, Ethell Drake at home, along with Whiskers, Bailey and Jazz; 2 brothers, Jack (Shirley) Stauffer and Gary (Kay) Stauffer of Kenton, OH; 1 sister, Jan Stauffer of Worthington and many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles; special friends James Ging, Jim Organ, Geri Freeman, and Margy Windsor. Over the past 8 years, Joyce has had many friends among the health care community including MCMC including the Home Health Division, St. Ann's and the James Cancer Center. Funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m. Monday, February 21, 2005 at SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Rd., where family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday.
