1951 - 2019
Karen S. Sexton, 67, passed away on Friday, January 18, 2019 in Westerville, OH. Karen was born on July 8, 1951 in Portsmouth, OH. Karen is preceded in death by her parents William L. and Mary M. Welty, three sisters Carolyn Jean Welty, Judith A. Sexton and Margie Welty Sparks, three brothers Robert L. Welty, David L. Welty and John R. Welty. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Jerry M. Sexton; children, Jerry M. Sexton, Jr., Jill (Kevin)Higgins and Brian M. Sexton; grandchildren, Scott (Denise) Thissen, Nick Thissen, Kari Sexton, Noah and Mackenzie Higgins; great-grandson, Magnus Thissen; sisters, Janet McGlone and Donna Wilburn; brother, Richard Welty; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends and beloved dog, Lucy. Karen retired from Franklin Co. Human Services. She was known by all for her loving and giving nature. Karen's pride and joy was her grandchildren and her great-grandson. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, hosting holidays, especially Thanksgiving and boasting about her grandchildren's accomplishments. Family will hold visitation on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 from 6-8 pm at Newcomer NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd., Columbus, OH 43231. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 11 am also at Newcomer NE Chapel with a visitation one hour prior. She will be laid to rest at Maplewood Cemetery, New Albany, OH 43054. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Karen's honor to the National Kidney Foundation, 2800 Corporate Exchange Dr., Columbus, OH 43231.
