Kathy Prince Obituary

PRINCE Kathy Diane (Miller) Prince -a selfless, beautiful soul whose compassion and love knew no limit- passed away suddenly at age 61 on January 3, 2010. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother, a doting grandmother, a treasured friend to many and a tireless advocate for children. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Arthur Ray Prince; children, Michelle Prince of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Jeffrey Prince of Pickerington, Ohio, and Nicole (Graham) Couzens of Pickerington, Ohio; beloved grandchildren, Jerrica, Carson, Caleb, and Gracie; sister, Gloria Kay Caruso of Grand Rapids, Michigan; brother, James (Elva) Thompson of West Portsmouth, Ohio; mother-in-law, Ruby Prince of West Portsmouth, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Gayle (Bill) Shinkle of West Portsmouth, Ohio and Deborah (Ken) Slish of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Kathy was born on July 24, 1948 in Portsmouth, Ohio and was preceded in death by parents Clarence Edward and Katherine Mae (Zornes) Miller, sisters Patty Hileman and Alfreda Coriell, brother Terry Miller. She was a highly regarded educational assistant at Asbury and Dunloe Elementary Schools in the Groveport Madison Local School District where she was known for her unfaltering spirit and belief that every child is deserving of love and kindness. She enjoyed her garden and backyard sanctuary for birds and squirrels, spending time with her pets and giving meaningful gifts and special gestures to her family and friends. All who knew her benefited from her strength, wisdom, nurturing heart and gift for comforting and lifting up anyone who may have been suffering. She will be sadly missed and remembered with gratitude. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 6, 2010 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the MYERS-WOODYARD FUNERAL HOME, 587 Main Street in Groveport, where the funeral service will be Thursday 11 a.m. Reverend Kenneth Marckel officiating. I think of Kathy every day. She taught me so much about kindness and believing and even hugging trees. Every spring after we had hatched our butterflies and it was time to turn them loose she would have tears in her eyes as they flew away. When I first met her I had to keep asking her if her name was spelled with a K or a C. I soon learned it was K for kindness and everytime I wrote her name I thought of her kindness. She gave so much to the children and she wanted to learn more. She borrowed my books to learn how to teach reading better or how to reach children with behavior problems. She loved them all. And we all loved her. She was my angel on earth!

Dear Prince Family,
Kathy was a wonderful support to many people at Dunloe. We shared a special interest in students with Autism. She was the most patient, loving, supportive person I have ever worked with. She inspired me to always do better for my students. I can only hope that I will become the type of educator she always was.

Dear Prince family,

Kathy was such a beautiful person that always put everyone else before herself. I was so thankful she was in my classroom with me my first year teaching. I would not have made it without her help and her wonderful manner with kids. She will be missed by anyone that was lucky enough to know her. My thoughts and prayers are with your whole family!

Dear Ray, Michelle, Jeff, and Nicole,
Kathy was so proud of each of you especially those grandchildren. My relationship with Kathy began long ago (sorry, Jeff) when Jeff was a student in my 5th grade class at Asbury, but I grew to love her as she babysat each of my own children as I taught. To Karla, she was Mrs. Higglebottom as she allowed Karla to style and decorate her hair. Brad called her his "other mother". I will miss her terribly. My thoughts and prayers are with each of you and your families during this time.

Dear Prince Family,

When I think of Kathy, I think of her smile. She ALWAYS had a hug to share. It's a shame we don't often think to say things until it's too late. So to ALL of you, THANKS for sharing Kathy with me! I am truly sorry for you loss.

Much LOVE
