Kenneth Wise Obituary

WISE The Reverend Father Kenneth Francis Wise, died on Monday, August 25, 2008, at St. Joseph Nursing Home, Euclid OH. The son of Frank and Catherine (Carroll) Wise, he was born in Cleveland, OH on April 17, 1922. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Gloria. He is survived by his sister, Ruth O'Malley of Euclid. He attended elementary school at Holy Name School, Cleveland and high school at Holy Name High School, from which he graduated in 1940. Father Wise studied at John Carroll University, Cleveland from 1940-42 and then St. Mary Seminary, Cleveland from which he received a B.A. in Philosophy in 1944. He subsequently studied theology at St. Mary Major Seminary, Cleveland from 1944-46 and then Mount St. Mary Seminary, Norwood, OH from which he graduated in 1947. Father Wise was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Columbus on May 31, 1947 at St. Joseph Cathedral by Bishop Michael J. Ready. Father Wise served in numerous assignments during his priesthood, including: Assistant Pastorates at St. Mary Magdalene, Columbus, Holy Family, Columbus, and St. Augustine, Columbus; Administrator at St. Luke, Danville; Pastor at St. Mary, Waverly, St. Joseph, Sugar Grove and Parishes of St. Aloysius, Strasburg and St. Stephen, Bolivar until his retirement in 1992. In addition, he served as chaplain of the Boys' Industrial School, Lancaster and Ohio State Juvenile Diagnostic Center and Detention Home with residence at Maryhurst. Father Wise also served as the ordinary confessor for several convents of religious sisters throughout the diocese and as the diocesan director of the Cursillo (1967-70). Calling hours will be Wednesday 3-8 p.m. at the McMAHON-COYNE-VITANTONIO FUNERAL HOME, 38001 EUCLID AVENUE, WILLOUGHBY, OH. The Funeral Mass will be Thursday 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, 19951 Lakeshore Blvd., Euclid. Interment at Calvary Cemetery, Cleveland, OH will follow the Funeral Mass.
