Dr. Larry Nyeste delivered my first baby in August of 1979 - a strapping 9 1/2 pound baby girl (43 weeks). I remember him cracking jokes while I was in labor while my husband filmed the whole birth on our brand new camera. I also remember him NOT laughing when I explained weeks later that said husband forgot to load the film in the camera beforehand. He also asked my husband if he wanted a catcher's mitt to help with the delivery. Such a card - we loved him! I tried to send him a card in the mail back in 2021, not realizing he had left this earth. I wanted to show him the 7 children that little girl he delivered had delivered herself! I treasure the picture of him holding her in his lap - as so many other babies did in his office. He will be missed! Prayers to his family.

I was just thinking of Dr. Nyeste the other day and wondered how he was doing. This makes me so sad. He delivered both of my children, my daughter in `94 and son in `97. He was the most caring doctor with a great sense of humor. Loved to tell George Carlin jokes. Rest in Peace Dr. Nyeste.

My friend and I called him Uncle Larry when he was in practice on Karl Rd. My second pregnancy he put me in the hospital at 26 weeks for preterm labor where I stayed until 38 weeks. He always brought me the newspaper and Juju Beans candy almost every day, even sharing the story of his wife being bedridden and he brought the dining room table to the bedroom so they could still eat together as a family. He had such a fun personality and when delivery time came my husband had the hockey game on tv so when Uncle Larry came in he said "cool, what's the score?" as I lay there in contraction. Thank you for everything Uncle Larry.

I was in University Hospital, having gone through the clinic there. I was in bad shape, having been in labor several days and my doctor was nowhere to be found. A young intern, Dr. Larry Nyeste, stuck his head in and asked how I was doing. He immediately called for an emergency c-section, which saved my life and that of my unborn baby. I´m eternally grateful. I made sure he delivered my other children. I even named my second son Lawrence to honor him. I´m distressed and deeply saddened to hear he is gone so soon. The world needs his kind. May he Rest In Peace.

Just today my husband & I were reminiscing about Dr. Nyeste. We met him just before we were to marry. He didn´t even have his own practice yet . A new young doctor- we immediately became friends! The next 20 years were full of memories as he cared for me as I carried 10 beautiful, healthy babies. He was the best :
from his intelligence & knowledge, to his care & concern , to his interest in names and their meanings (that we shared) to his delight in delivering our precious babies!
As each baby came , he encouraged us to bring the other children to our prenatal visits-he always joked that we were going to run out of O2 in those small rooms!
Joel , I don´t know if you were to young to remember this but one of our kids was born in December & he came to see me at the hospital after the birth and you had sent presents to our children. I was so touched that you would do that . I believe you & your Dad also worked on a grid board for a game for us that you two liked to play.
I could go with more stories .......
I was very sorry to find out that he had passed and that my condolences are 2 years late.
I am sure he is missed . We were blessed to know him .

Another memory I have is Larry's delight when we would bring in the babies. His face would light up and he would immediately want to hold them. As they grew up and finished high school they each took differing paths. Our eldest daughter went into the Army. Our youngest went to college. He was so proud of both of them.

Dr nyeste delivered my daughter feb 20, 1974, at OSU.
As a 17 yo new mom, way back then-I knew how lucky we were to have his caring spirit with us throughout the pregnancy and delivery. He was not even on call that evening, but came out of a masters and Johnson lecture to care for us. I asked-"what (sex) is it.?".. He said "It´s a Rebecca!" He knew my chosen names. Thanks, Dr Nyeste.

I met Larry when my then husband was a student at OSU and Larry was finishing up his residency there. Larry was my OB/GYN and delivered both my daughters. He was a calming supportive man to me/us and I appreciated having him as my Dr.

Larry and were fraternity brothers at Western Reserve. He was always upbeat, enthusiastic and fun to be around. I remember one day after spring break, he came into the frat house with several broken bones from a bike or moped accident. I wish I had stayed in touch with Larry these past 55 years. I thought he was studying to be architect. What a memory.

Blessed is the human spirit
for it grows in love's memory,
perseveres in God's strength,
and remembers in the heart's grace.

It is with great sadness we received the news of Larry's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

PEACE and GRACE,

Like many of Dr. Nyeste’s patients, we have very fond memories of him and his delivery of our first child. But we are perhaps unique in that we knew Larry when he was a young medical student and lived in the apartment complex where we resided as resident managers. Larry was not just a tenant, but a friend. We enjoyed his energy and exuberance for life and his passion for his chosen profession. When he saw that our baby was in the process of arriving (at University Hospital) he rushed into the delivery room and moved our presiding doctor aside to handle the final delivery himself! And, while performing some post delivery procedures, he dialed up the new baby's grandmother on the operating room phone and handed it to the new mother so she could be distracted during the procedure. We still laugh at that incident. He was a dedicated professional, an interesting man, and a fun person to have as a friend. We are sorry we were not able to reconnect with him in his final days when we returned to Columbus after a 30-year absence. Char and Dave

Saddened to hear of his passing. Dr. Nyeste delivered 4 of my 6 sons and helped me through a miscarriage. He was not only a wonderful and caring doctor but a good person. Allways enjoyed talking with him. My condolences to his family.

Dr Nyeste was a wonderful and caring man. He will be very missed at Cleveland Clinic, I had the honor of working with him for many years. He would wipe off our cars in the winter time. He would remember our birthdays. He would make dishes at home and bring them in for us to try. My favorite was his homemade cheese cake. If we asked him about buying a big purchase, he would do the leg work on finding the best deal and the best product for our money. He really look out for all of us at Cleveland Clinic He will be very missed, and the office will not be the same without him.
