Mabel Thimmes Obituary

THIMMES Mabel M. Thimmes, 87, of Sugar Grove, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2008 at the Pickering House. She was born on February 8, 1921 to the late Frank and Nellie Carpenter Johnson. Mabel was raised and lived in the same area for 87 years. Her home originated from the Hensley School House that she attended as a child. Mabel graduated from Berne Union in 1938 where she was well known for being in the choir, playing basketball and the trombone. She then attended and graduated with a degree from the Lancaster Business College also in 1938. She also enjoyed bowling very much. Mabel was born and raised a Methodist; in 1941 she married Donald R. Thimmes whom was Catholic and they chose to raise their children catholic as well. Mabel was a waitress at the Lancaster Hotel for 25 years. Mabel and Don opened and operated the Thimmes Fish Shack for 45 years. She is survived by sons, Donnie Thimmes, Jeffrey (Kathy) Thimmes, both of Sugar Grove, Michael (Stacey) Thimmes of Lancaster, Thomas (Sharon) Thimmes of Lancaster and Edward Thimmes of Lancaster; daughter, Regina (Terry) Campbell of Thornville; 13 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; devoted sister, Myrtle Baumgardner of Louisville, Ky; sisters-in-law, Virginia (Richard) Boch of Bremen, Wanda Thimmes and Beverly Thimmes. Mabel was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Donald R. Thimmes, brother Henry Johnson, grandson Ricky along with her parents. A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Monday, October 20, 2008 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church in Sugar Grove with Msgr. James Geiger as Celebrant and Pastor Gary Keller. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Saturday, October 18, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. and on Sunday, October 19, 2008 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the SHERIDAN FUNERAL HOME with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday with Msgr James Geiger. You have my sincere sympathy. I am Richard and Pauline Thimmes's daughter. We always came in to the restaurant and Mabel would give my dad a big hug and a kiss. My prayers are with you.
