My condolences, of course, to all who knew Ms. Nancy A. (Kattenhorn) Mapes...
I was reading my Pop's obituary and guest book, the last entry was mine, and, I am sure I miss him, as much as you all miss Mrs. Mapes.
I clicked on the funeral home's web site, and, I saw her beautiful smile, and, the warmth of her face, glowing...and, I chose to read about her, and, am in awe of the many beautiful memorial notes from those who did know and care for her, and about you, her family and friends.
God Bless you all, for you surely were graced by this angel on earth, and, just as surely this angel is keeping watch over you from the heavens above.
Peace be with you...remember her and smile...
Sincerely,
Julia O'Sullivan

Stacy, Chad, Ryan and Jenna,
We are so sorry to learn of your mom's death. She was such a vibrant and caring woman and I have wonderful memories of her at your swim meets, working the scorers table or the bake sale always stopping to cheer for you guys when you were on deck. She always had a good word for all kids and brought humor to everyone near her. Her laughter was infectious. I'm sure you will always miss her and hope that precious memories keep her near. You're in our thoughts and prayers.

To Nancy's family and friends I send my sincerest condolences. I graduated from Bishop Watterson High School with Nancy and while we have not seen each other over many years, I have read with awe the beautiful tribues to her and find that they fit very well with my memory of her from our high school years. I found this quotation of Ralph Waldo Emerson to be a very fitting testimony to the person you all have loved and will miss so much. “The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” I can only add....well done Nancy...rest now in peace.

To all of her children. I worked with your mother at Memorial before she moved with Ohio and I missed her and was so sorry to see her leave. She came back after your father passed away and I got to work with her once again. She then decided with Jenna so young that she needed to find something better suited to her schedule and left for school nursing at Round Town. She is the most gracious and caring person that I ever met. She always had a kind word for everyone and smile on her face. When you think about a nurse she should be included in the definition. I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to know her and have shared some of time with her. She will be greatly missed by each of you and everyone that knew her as you can tell by the number of people who were glad to have known her even for a short time. Dixie

I will never forget the countless times Nancy would stop and talk with me, either walking her dogs or just driving by. She would always be so upbeat and cheerful and It rubbed off, for I would walk away with a smile also. She was loving, caring, helpful, generous and as many people have already said, had a smile and laugh that just made you feel good.
She was one of those very, very special human beings that God instilled with gifts few people have. And she used those gifts to touch, inspire and uplift everyone she knew.
Having lived right beside her for so long, I took for granted she'd always be here, but God had other plans.
We have lost a wonderful neighbor and friend, and we will all miss her, but heaven has gained an angel.
January 29, 2015
Nancy always had a huge smile on her face and a kind word to say. Whenever I subbed at Roundtown, I could count on seeing her cheerful face and it always made my day brighter. I remember how she had her Ohio State stuff hanging everywhere, especially during March Madness. Wherever she went, she made friends. I am truly grateful and blessed that I had the privilege to know such a warm, caring, giving, and loving person. She will be missed deeply. Rest in peace, dear Nancy. I will always keep you close in my heart.
Sending prayers to the whole family. May the memories give you comfort during this sad time.

She will be missed by many, but the impression she made on all of our children's lives will live on forever. May her memory be eternal.

Our sincere condolences to all. Mrs. Mapes was an amazing person to everyone she met. Once years ago my daughter was very sad about having broke a sand dollar on her bus that she brought in to school for show & tell. As she was crying on her way into the school building, Mrs. Mapes came to her rescue. She sat her down & explained to her how the inside of a sand dollar contains precious peace doves. Needless to say Mrs. Mapes fixed my daughter's broken heart and enlightened her to a more beautiful idea! We will always remember the love she shared and how much she cared for her little patients! Here is part of the Sand Dollar Poem: "When broken, inside the shell are five little birds called the Doves of Peace. Some say they are the Angels that sang to the shepherds the first Christmas Morning." Mrs. Mapes was and is a true angel. She also adored my youngest daughter and always praised her personality. It truly made us as parents feel love and compassion from her always. She has made an everlasting impression on all of us. Our hearts go out to all in sympathy and with love, Annie, Abby and their parents Chris and John

As a kid growing up on Zebulon I was fortunate along with the 25+ other kids on that street to know Nancy. My heart goes out to Ryan, Chad and Stacy, I think of all of you often and my prayers are with you. Your mom was a awesome woman, she was always full of energy and life, and took great care of us kids when we all would be over at your house playing Around the World, making a fire pit behind the garage surrounded by old Christmas trees lol, playing Nintendo games, building snow forts and so on. My mom told me to tell you all that she too is praying for you and if you are ever in town to come see us.

Nancy was a very special lady/friend. Working with her at Roundtown was pure joy. Nancy was always so generous. We loved all the many goodies she would bring in for us to sample. She always made me smile. Students would ask to go to the nurse just so they could see her. As I am remembering her, I can hear her laugh. She will be greatly missed!
My prayers go out to her family. May you feel God's loving arms around you. May you also feel His comfort and peace that surpasses all understanding.

We found out this afternoon that a friend of the family, Nancy Mapes, passed away after a battle with cancer. Nancy was the school nurse at Roundtown Elementary School and was one of the first people we met when Ella began school there. Instantly, she and Ella hit it off and became dear friends. Nancy and her daughter came to one of Ella's birthday parties and Ella went to visit Nancy on more than one occasion. Ella loved Nancy and I truly believe the feeling was mutual.
It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye, but we know her fight is done.
The late Stuart Scott said it best and we heard it frequently upon his passing...
"When you die, that does not mean you lose to cancer. You beat cancer by how you live, why you live and in the manner in which you live."
Nancy lived a great life, had wonderful biological children and a whole host of "adopted" children through her work...Ella being one of them. She did not lose this fight. She won by touching the heart of our child and bettering Ella's life in the process. For that, we will always be grateful.
Our deepest sympathies to Nancy's children and family.
January 28, 2015
Our deepest and most heart-felt sympathies go out to Nancy's entire family. She was a loving, caring and an absolute sweetheart of a woman, which is still abundantly evident through her children as well as her grandchildren. For the few short years we've gotten to know Nancy, we consider ourselves extremely blessed to have had the opportunity to have such a special person grace our lives. This world needs more kind and genuine people like Nancy. She will be deeply missed and NEVER forgotten. All of our love and prayers are coming your way to get you through this difficult time.
