I was talking to my daughter (a teacher) about the impact teachers have on a child´s life. Mrs. Gump was my teacher at Oakland Park Elementary for Kindergarten (1960) and 2nd grade (1962). She was such a wonderful teacher! Such fond memories! My condolences to her family.

I have been think about Mrs. Gump for a while now as I live close to Sandy Lane and remember going to her house as a kid. She was great teacher who became friends with our family. My mom and Mrs. Gump got along great. Pat Gump and Pat Turner. Way back then I thought that was cool, two Pat's. Mrs. Gump made a lasting impact on my life as well as my brothers. She wanted to see us succeed. I'm sorry it took so long after her passing to post this but I wanted to let your family know she made a positive impact on my family. May she rest in peace.

Pat was such a blessing to me after my parents passed. She and Bob came all the way out to my college graduation in New Hampshire. She also would invite me to family reunions so I could still feel like a part of a family when my sisters were scattered all over the world. Whenever I spent time with Pat I knew I would feel loved, eat well, and learn something. One time Pat invited me to a Kentucky Derby party. I had never watched it before so it was such a treat to sit with Bob and Pat and learn all about the history of the event, pick horses to see if they'd win, and just have a wonderful time visiting with the two of them eating the delicious meal Pat made. Pat may not have been able to remember many of her later memories but she didn't lose them. She just left them inside the ones she loved!

Pat not only was a great teacher for her students, but for me, first year teacher, a part of her staff...so encouraging, fun, supportive to try something knew to support learning. Then,at CWC, brought that same aura as our President...standing firm when saying Pledge of Allegiance , it is always 'One Nation Under God" in one phrase...never paused like most tend to say it. She did make a difference while on this earth.
