Patsy Ruth Davis McCann

McCANN Patsy Ruth Davis McCann, beloved mother, sister, grandmother and Christian pilgrim, passed away Saturday, September 1, 2007, at age 82. Ms. McCann was a graduate of North High and studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. She was a nationally touring actress with Clare Tree Major Children's Theater, and performed in various radio and film roles in New York City (NBC Radio) and Canada (Radio Canada and others). She was a June Taylor Dancer in NYC, performing at the Roxy Theater and Vanity Fair, and danced with companies in Montreal, Miami and Havana, Cuba. In her forties and fifties Ms. McCann returned to school to receive a BA and MA in English, and was a doctoral candidate at the University of Iowa. She was a dedicated teacher and tutor at public and private schools in New York, California, Minnesota, and Columbus. In Columbus she treasured her work tutoring disabled children in the Columbus school system, as well as her work as a substitute teacher for suburban schools such as Upper Arlington and Dublin. Until her incapacitation in a car accident in 2006, Ms. McCann pursued her lifelong passions of scholarship (particularly biblical), fitness, gardening, and simple, independent living. Well into her 70's she could be seen at OSU studying calculus, Greek, Hebrew, and until recently working out daily at Sawmill Athletic Club and bagging groceries at Kroger Dublin. She gratefully received the loving and devoted care of her church family at Riverside Bible Church, as well as the many devoted medical professionals at the Laurels of Norworth, Select Specialty Hospital, and Grant. Ms. McCann is predeceased by her husband Valentine Joseph McCann, and parents Jack and Ruth Broyles McClellan Davis. She is survived by daughters, Jacqi Stevens and Valerie Saiz; sister, Jacqueline Davis; and grandchildren, Claire Stevens and Kelly and Severiano Saiz. She will be remembered lovingly by her sons-in-law, Aurelio Saiz and Chris Stevens. Family and friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, September 6, 2007, at the RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High St., Worthington, OH 43085. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, September 7, 2007, at Riverside Bible Church, 5330 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, OH 43235 with Pastor Arthur Crawford officiating.
