Priscilla D'Angelo Obituary

D'Angelo Priscilla Ruth Smith D'Angelo, passed away at Westminster Thurber on March 3, 2013 at the age of 87. She is predeceased by her father Howard Dwight Smith, mother Myrna Cott Smith, brothers R. Jackson and Howard, sister Marjorie and step-sister Sybil de Groot. Priscilla is survived by Gene D'Angelo, her husband of 63 years. They were married in Columbus, Ohio on December 19, 1949 and enjoyed a long and happy life together. She is lovingly remembered by her sister, Myrna (Dan) Dupler of Columbus, Ohio; children, Beverly, Jeffrey (Susie), Tim and Tony (Colleen; grandchildren, Nick, Perry, Christopher, Courtney, Catie D'Angelo of Columbus and Olivia and Anton Pacino of Los Angeles; brother-in-law, Lucian Susi; sister-in-law, Ann Marie D'Angelo; and step-sister, Jane Ritter. Priscilla was born in Columbus, Ohio on March 9, 1925. She graduated from Columbus School for Girls in '43 and graduated from Smith College Summa Cum Laude '47. After college she worked at the graduate school at Ohio State in the English department before starting her family in 1950. She was a brilliant women and selfless loving mother. Priscilla led a Christian life and was a lifelong member of First Community Church. Very active athletically, she was a champion swimmer growing up and continued to compete into her 70's. She became an avid skier after falling in love with the sport at Holiday Valley in Ellicottville, NY. She was involved in many activities and served on numerous boards. She served on the Boards of Pro Musica, Ohio Society for the Prevention of Blindness, Thurber House and the Ohio Historical Society. She was most proud of her appointment to the Board of Trustees of Ohio University. She served from 1980 to 1989 including a term as Chairman. Priscilla was a talented violinist and later in life she and her husband created the Fellowship for Violin at Ohio University. As was her wish and a testament to her unselfish nature, she donated her body to science through the body donor program at Ohio University. She will be honored by a memorial service at First Community Church, 1320 Cambridge Boulevard on Saturday, March 16 at 4 p.m. followed by a brief reception at Brownlee Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ohio University School of Music, Priscilla D'Angelo Violin Scholarship Athens, Ohio 45701.
