Raymond Lanier Obituary

LANIER Raymond O. "Rocky" Lanier passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his mother Anne Radogna Lanier, and his brother Clarence "Butch" Lanier. He is survived by his niece, Deana (Bryan) DeVault and their children Bryan Jr., Stephanie, Nicolas and Darryl; and a nephew, Thomas Lanier. He recently returned to Virginia after living in Columbus, Ohio for many years. He was employed at BMW Financial Services of North America. After retiring, he devoted much of his time to child advocacy issues, working primarily with SAFY of Ohio and CASA of Franklin County, Ohio. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 1 at 2 p.m. at Grace Angelican Church, Purdy, Virginia. The family cordially invites you to a time of fellowship and remembrance in the church parish hall directly following service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Purdy Baptist Church, c/o Janie Brown, 301 West York Dr., Emporia, Virginia 23847 or SAFY Lanier Memorial Fund, 10100 Elida Rd., Delphof, Ohio 45833.

I was very sorry to read of Rocky's death. I went to high school with him many years ago. He was such a sweet and funny guy. I will always have fond memories of him during our school days. I know he will be missed.

It was a privilege to work with Ray as he volunteered with CASA of Franklin County. In the brief time I knew him, his kindness, dedication, and generosity of spirit were admirable. I am so sorry for your loss.
