Rena Bean Poteet

POTEET Rena Bean Poteet, age 96, died Thursday, October 18, 2012, at the Westminster-Thurber Health Care Center in Columbus, Ohio. She was born May 1, 1916 in Lone Pine, Arkansas, to the late Oscar W. and Delana Boen Bean. She and her husband, Francis E. Poteet, met at the College of the Ozarks, married, and lived in Clarksville, Arkansas until 1943, moving then to western Pennsylvania for service in WWII's strategic coal mining effort. In 1983, they retired from mining to a home in Ludwig, Arkansas. In addition to filling the roles of wife, mother and grandmother, she avidly studied history, arts, crafts and culture, becoming over time one of the greatest miniaturists of the 20th Century. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Jim, sister Alma Hunt, and brothers-in-law Bill Hunt and David Scarborough. She is survived by her son, Bill (Agnes) Poteet; grandchildren, Leanne, Cherry, Tanya (Mark Hill) and Scott (Pamula) Poteet; great-grandchildren, Graham, Chloe and Julian Martin-Poteet, Jessica, Jacob, Frederick, Franklin and Marshall Poteet, Rachel Poteet Sprunger, and Caroline and Taylor Hill; sister, Dallas Scarborough; nieces, Sharon (Gary) Lloyd and Pat Hunt Fisher; and nephew, Gary Scarborough. A memorial service for friends and family will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Clarksville, Arkansas.
