Rodney Bell Obituary

BELL Rodney A. Bell, 89, of London, died Wednesday, July 9, 2008, in the Madison County Hospital. He was born in Amity (Knox County), Ohio on January 31, 1919, a son of Carl and Louisa (Maxwell) Bell. Rod graduated from Amity High School and attended Mount Vernon Business School, and was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II. He owned and operated Rod Bell Ford from 1958 to 1986, which was sold to Buckeye Ford, where he continued as a salesman. Rod was past president of the London Rotary Club; past president of the Madison County Chamber of Commerce; recipient of the Chamber Bell Ringer Award; served on the Board of Directors of Citizens Bank (Advantage Bank) from 1967 to 2004. Was a director of the Cincinnati District Ford Dealers Advertising Association from 1967 to 1972; member of the Knights of Columbus; member of the American Legion Post #105, and was recipient of Saint Patrick Catholic Church's Catholic Man of the Year Award in 1967. Rod is survived by his wife of 57 years, RoseMary (DeLuca) Bell; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Chris Logan of Columbus; sons, Bradley Bell of London and Larry Bell of Chillicothe; three grandchildren; brother-in-law, Ralph (Sue) Swain; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and son Steven. Rod's family invites friends to call at the Saint Patrick Catholic Church Parish Center on Friday, July 11, 2008, from 4-8 p.m. with a Wake service being held at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 12, 2008, at 10 a.m. with Father Ted Sill officiating. Entombment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Columbus. The family request, in lieu of floral tributes, that memorial contributions be made in Rod's memory to th Saint Patrick School Activity Fund.
