Rose Immelt Obituary

IMMELT Rose Marie Immelt, March 23, 1920 - December 9, 2011, died Friday, after a long illness. Rose was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of Joel Immelt and Odessa Marie McPherson Immelt. One of 10 children, she was preceded in death by Frederick Arthur, Dorothy, Joel, Caroline, Gilbert Augustus, Martha and Robert. She is survived by sister, Ruth Anderson; and brother, Joseph Immelt. Rose maried George Reams in Ohio and they moved to Redondo Beach, California in 1952. George and Rose were founding members of GeoDynamics. The company was moved to Santa Barbara, where they lived for many years. They have two children, Tish Epperson (Larry) and Joel Reams (Suzanne). Rose has three grandchildren, Laura Gill (Oral) and Noah and Nyle Reams; as well as great-grandson, Nicholas Murphy. Rose moved to Tyler, Texas later in life to be near her son Joel. She loved her little house and garden in the woods. Unfortunately she then lost her battle with schizophrenia. Thanks to the staff of Briarcliff Nursing Home, who cared for her for 17 years. Thanks also to the staff of Heart to Heart Hospice, for their loving care. In spite of her mental illness, Rose is remembered by many people for her thoughful actions and extreme generosity. She was at her best when she was helping others. Rose came from a very talented and musical family. As a young woman, she performed with various family members in churches and on the radio. Rose loved art and created an impressive art collection with her husband George. She helped many artists in their early years who later became famous. Later in life, she took up painting herself and showed great talent. She loved nature, camping and the outdoors and walked everywhere for most of her life. Her family and friends remember her fabulous cooking. She was a talented clothing designer and seamstress and had a strong sense of style. In lieu of flowers, a donation is suggested to the mental health facility in your area. A memorial service will be held at the Gallery at Otter Rock, Oregon on June 13, 2012 at 1 p.m. Call 541-765-2770 for more infomation.

I send my sympathy to your family. It is ironic that I am visiting in Phoenix today as I read this. I remember Uncle Arthur and Aunt Jessie talking affectionately about Rose.
