Roy Mahan Obituary

MAHAN Roy Mahan Jr., age 80, passed away November 22, 2009. A lifelong resident of Columbus, Roy was a proud alumnus of East High School and member of The Pirates Social Club. He served 4 years in the U.S. Navy and was an avid athlete who excelled as a light-heavyweight boxer. He also coached junior baseball for local recreational centers and enjoyed taking his son to major league games. His favorite teams were the Browns, Reds, Indians, Yankees, and the Buckeyes and he loved Michael Jackson and Beyonce. Roy retired from DCSC after 37 years of service. Predeceased by parents Roy and Helen T. Mahan. Roy is survived by loving son, Mark; sister, Betty English Mahan of Leander, TX; brother, Ronald (Eileen) Mahan; former wife, Betty Scott Mahan; a host of nieces, nephews; other relatives; friends; former DCSC co-workers; and neighbors, including Chrystal, Shirley, Melanie, and Jimmy. Funeral service 2 p.m., Tuesday, December 1, 2009 in the chapel of DIEHL-WHITTAKER FUNERAL SERVICE, 720 E. Long Street, where the family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the start of service.
