1936 - 2019
Silas "Si" William Thimmes, age 83, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 4, 2019. Si was born April 4, 1936 in Lancaster, Ohio to the late Robert and Wilma (Wiseman) Thimmes. In addition to his parents, he will be united with the love of his life, his wife, Karen (Skony) Thimmes; father Robert Chrisman; sisters Sally Wathen and Julia Taylor and his favorite Uncle (Unc), Claire Wiseman. Si was a proud member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and a graduate of The Ohio State University and Columbus West High School. He was a member of Scioto Country Club and a Charter Member and Club Captain (05-06) of Muirfield Village Golf Club. Si was fondly known as "The Commissioner," and absolutely loved playing Gin with friends. Si was outgoing and loved by all. He will be remembered for his quick sense of humor and kind heart. He was loyal. He worked in national sales for the same paper company for over 40 years. He was giving, evidenced by his commitment to volunteering with the Memorial Tournament and The Dave Thomas Foundation. Si will be deeply missed by his children Craig Thimmes, Amy (Todd) Barcus, Jay (Jenifer Van Baglen) Thimmes; grandsons Camden and Jake Barcus; brother Jeff (Kathleen) Chrisman; and numerous cousins who he adored. Family will receive friends from 4-7pm on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus, Ohio 43221. A funeral service will be held at 1pm on Thursday, July 11, 2019 at Upper Arlington Lutheran Church-Mill Run, 3500 Mill Run Drive, Hilliard, Ohio 43026 with interment to follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery and Celebration at Spuds Bar and Grill. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, Franklin County Unit, 870 Michigan Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43215. I worked at Murifield during college and had the opportunity to know Mr. Thimmes. He was one of my favorite members by far, a great person who treated all of us with respect and courtesy. I am sorry for your loss.
