Stacey Contakis Obituary

CONTAKIS Stacey Katherine Contakis, age 41, of Pickerington, gracefully passed away on August 23, 2010 at Kobacker House after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was born October 16, 1968 in Columbus, Ohio, daughter of George A. and Noula Contakis. Stacey was a graduate of Hilliard High School, where she actively participated in marching band, cheerleading, and softball. She was also a proud graduate of The Ohio State University where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma collegiate women's sorority and Sigma Epsilon Phi, a non-profit organization created for Greek Orthodox students attending the university. She received her Bachelor's of Science degree in Dental Hygiene in 1990. She worked as a dental hygienist for Dr. Douglas Hinton, D.D.S. for a number of years and was a member of the American Dental Association. She was a proud parishioner of The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, embracing her Hellenic heritage with involvement in the Zoee Dance Group, both as a dancer and instructor, loving to perform during the church's annual Greek Festival. She also enjoyed volunteer service in Dublin and Pickerington, coaching youth soccer and having active involvement with youth lacrosse teams. Stacey will be lovingly remembered for her gravitating presence and being full of life, but most importantly for fighting the good fight. She is survived by her husband, David Olney; son, Robert and daughter, Nicole; step-sons, Benjamin and Christopher; brother, Anthony (Linda) Contakis; nephew, James and niece, Kathryn; aunts, Maria Sardelis of Greece, Mary Fraser, and Marie Contakis; cousins, Lynn (George) Kuselias, Tony (Karen) Contakis, Michael (Laura) Contakis, Stacy Craft, Christopher (Sheri) Fraser, Katie Koutoudakis of Greece; Godmother, Annie Lloyd; their extended families, and numerous friends. Friends may call at the O.R. WOODYARD NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 2990 Bethel Road, Wednesday, August 25, from 4-8 p.m. with the Trisagion at 7:30 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service which will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 26 at The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 555 N. High Street. Reverend Economos Michael Kontos, Jr., officiating. Entombment will follow at Union Cemetery, 3349 Olentangy River Road. Hello Contakis and Basinger family and friends Of Stacey’s. I just saw the notification that I could add to her memory book here online. I have been fortunate enough to be friends with Tony since high school. I was also blessed in that lifelong friendship To get to know Stacey and George and Noula. Stacey was such a beautiful soul. She always made me laugh when we would talk back in the high school days. As time went on I remember bumping into Stacey at a wedding in Kentucky (small world). Later on through the wonders of Facebook I was able to get back in touch after so many years. I remember talking to her about getting George to come to Boston for a Red Sox game (I live in Boston and have for 12 years). I remember being fortunate enough to talk to her on the phone in maybe 2009. Her smile shined through the phone over 800 miles away from me. Her energy, humor, and smile were contagious. I think of her often. How sad to have lost such a beautiful soul far too soon, but I know that she knew Christ through her faith. I am certain that her smile is adding to the beauty of that wonderful place. May God grant all of you the joys of her happiness in remembering her. I am blessed to have called her my friend.

We are very saddened to learn of Stacey's passing. She was always a very positive and cheerful person to be around. We missed her when she took a leave of absence from Dr Hinton's office. May her children and husband be comforted during this time.

This candle, like the sparkle of her smile with glow eternal. She will forever bring fond memories as I think of the high school times never told we saw her "sneaking out" from across the street on Youngland! Mum was the word George & Noula! Her life may have been shorter than many, but she lived it fully with great gusto, love of family, compassion and grace. We are truly blessed to have been a small part of her wonderful legacy.

To the Contakis Family,

I wish you great love, memories, and strength as you endure your loss of Stacy.

Stacy was absolutely one of a kind...she was one of the brightest souls I have ever had the grace to know...her laughter was infectious and uninhibited like a child's, and her smile was genuine and unforgettable.

Although I haven't seen Stacy in many years, memories of her incredible spirit are some of the best memories I have from our days in school together. I know I was blessed that her path crossed with mine in life. I will always remember Stacy.

My deepest sympathy goes out to Robbie, Nicole and the Contakis family. I knew Stacey as a Taekwondo student of mine and as a mother who absolutely loved and adored her children. As she dedicated her family to reaching black belt in Taekwondo, it was the desire to raise her twin children with respect, honor, self-esteem and discipline that fueled her spirit. She was always so energetic, enthusiastic, and motivating to everyone around her. Her words of encouragement and motivation touched us all. Stacey’s smile and laughter would fill our gym and her presence was such a blessing to have in our classes. To Robbie & Nicole, your mom loved you so very, very much and she will always want you to be happy and full of life! I am very honored and blessed to have known Stacey. My prayers go out to the family and may God bring a peace that only he can give.

As loving parents and as a supportive brother, feel honored that God loves you so much He put someone as incredible and beautiful in every way, into your lives just as we feel honored to have known her. We pray that you find comfort in the memories of Stacey and that God, who has wrapped His loving arms around Stacey, will also wrap His arms around you to bring you peace. May your faith in our Loving Father always give you the strength you need to carry on. We are always thinking of you and praying for you.

To Family Contakis,

My deepest condolescences at this difficult time in your most precious lives with the repose of our sister in Christ; Efstratia (Stacey).

I met Efstratia through another "FACEBOOK" friend and we kept in contact via e-mail; I helped her in learning more of her rich faith and prayer- the holy language with God. Prayer helped significantly as prayer is the 'lungs' of our souls.

My Brotherhood of the Three Saints will commemorate her continually in the Divine Liturgy and all your names with our late Sister in Christ will be sent to Mt Athos, in Greece for consecutive 40 day Liturgies.

I, take this oppurtunity to express my deepest sympathy for your loss and will keep you in all my prayers both at Church and in my Brotherhood. May our Lord and Most Sweetest Christ strengthen you, our Lady, Theotokos guide your souls in prayer and all the Saints intercede before God's Holy Throne.

May she Rest in Peace and her beloved Memory to be Eternal.

You are all in our prayers and in our thoughts. If there is anything I can do, to help also spiritually as I am Greek Orthodox Christian- please feel free to contact me- through Efstratia's hotmail is my e-mail address (you'll find it with all the Biblical studies, Orthodox Spirituality studies and Spiritual Letters I have sent)or my e-mail as attached with this kind note.

In Christ with love,
