Timothy Stoica Obituary

STOICA Timothy Stoica, age 48, born September 12, 1958, in Martins Ferry, OH, died May 10, 2007, in Columbus, OH. Graduate Union Local High School, Morristown, OH. Bachelor degree in Electronic Engineering at Ohio Technical College (now Devry University) Columbus, OH; Master of Theological Studies at Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Bexley, OH. Former employee of Lockheed Corporation as Aerospace Satellite Manager in Sunnyvale, CA and Colorado Springs, CO. Former youth ministry director at First Lutheran Church, Colorado, Springs, CO, Redeemer Lutheran Church, Indianola, IA and Grace Lutheran Church, Mansfield, OH. Former Sacristan at Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Bexley, OH. When Tim was growing up he always enjoyed going to nursing homes and playing his accordion. In high school Tim played the drums and was a member of the marching band as well as DJ for high school dances and parties. His love of music and dancing came from his parents nurturing and he would do about anything to hear his mother laugh. He learned to cook from his Grandmother Barbara Rizzardi and all that was really important in life from his Grandfather Narciso Rizzardi. In California he played jazz piano and stand-up white string bass after work. In California and Colorado he sailed the open seas with Tammy and good friends. In Iowa he wrote music and sang Bible songs at VBS. He loved to take Wendy camping as often as possible. In Ohio he was passionate about liturgical worship and maintaining the rich Lutheran tradition in contemporary worship. He built towers and jungle gyms for the cats and listened to Cubs games with Wendy. He experienced every shuttle mission with the NASA astronauts. Survived by wife, Wendy; parents, Alma (Erma) Rizzardi Stoica and Theodore (Ted) Stoica of Lafferty; sister, Tamara (Jared) Plasterer and daughters, Kimberly and Valerie of Parma; great-aunt, Pearl Joswiak of Lafferty; aunt, Ann (Bob) Fox of Cleveland; aunt, Barbara (Dale) McCoy of Granville; nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved critters, Grace, Emma and Wrigley Field Stoica. Tim had the most gentle, loving soul and most tender heart. He had a passion and love for music, church, and family. We know he is with God and loved ones that went before him because death does not have the final word in this life. Visitation at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1555 S. James Rd., Columbus, on Thursday, May 17, 2007, from 4-6:45 p.m. with Memorial service and Eucharist at 7 p.m. Memorial service on Saturday, May 19, 2007, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Martins Ferry, OH at 2 p.m. with private burial at Grace of God Cemetery, Lafferty, OH. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Tim's memory for a Music Scholarship. Donations may be sent to Peoples Bank, Box 7, Flushing, OH 43977. Tim was our youth director in Colorado Springs. Recently as a campus pastor I had a musical therapy student who reminded me of Tim. I am not sure whom I am complimenting most by this comparison... both outstanding human beings... musical, gentle, committed. Decided to look Tim up as I retired last week and was very sad to see he had died. What a loss!! I so enjoyed working with Tim. When he took his accordion to a confirmation retreat I expected disaster... instead the kids loved it and Tim! They had not really seen one very often and did not know the Hokey Pokey which they so enjoyed. That´s Tim right there. Years later I will still pray for you all. Gary N.McCluskey

I only knew Tim professionally, but after reading the guest book, I am joyful that he had God/Jesus in his life so fully. I am a firmly grounded scientist, engineer, realist, straight arrow, drug-free person, and I have received physically manifested proof of the other dimension twice in my life on April 11 & July 26, 1999. I remember Tim's hard work in 1984-85, at the Satellite Test Center's Mission Control Complex-M, transitioning the Global Positioning Satellites (I was DSP--both of us supporting Dana McPherson, Tony Cromwell, Keith Etten, & Jesse Carlos) to IBM's new mainframe computerized Data Systems Modernization for Command & Control of Satellites (DSM/CCS) for the Air Force Satellite Control Network. Tim re-built/scrunched all of the GPS command and telemetry display frames on DSM's new tiny 23 rows by 80 columns CRTs. Later, on the Satellite Operations Training Program, Tim was a bit of a mischievous pooka in the computer world and taught me the command proc, "dog", which caused a pixel animation of a dog to dance across the bottom of the DSM screen. Later, this was an extremely obscure way of crashing the system--if it needed to be rebooted anyways, which was often! We humorously referred to broken, non-mission satellites as TACO birds which even more humorously evolved into the official Air Force acronym for Training and Check-Out. I liked Tim very much and am sorry that he had to return to the real world so soon before enjoying someone else's accordion music in the rest home. There is a validated psychological trick, for which Tim will appreciate the humor, that Wendy may prop extra pillows in his place to aid her sleep. God Bless Tim and his family and may He grant Tim the gift of manifesting himself and visiting his wife for her further enlightenment and comfort.
Sincerely,
Jimmie Frank Gorman

Wendy,

We extend our heartfelt sadness in hearing about Tim's death. I knew Tim was special from the moment we first spoke. He always had a very gentle, patient caring demeanor. He was very detail oriented and always seeking & sharing ways to improve. It is individuals like Tim that make what we accomplish here at Lifeline special. He was able to touch the lives of many very frail people and spread the message he believed. I was never able to meet Tim but his voice always brightened my day. He will be missed by all here at Lifeline. My prayers and thoughts are with you Ted and your entire family.

I remember Tim when we were just kids playing in the sandbox at Grandma's house, and just a few weeks ago when he called me out of the blue to ask me to be on a local radio show. We talked together about our families and we had been doing over the last 20 years and I was very grateful for his call and cheerful way. I will miss him, but I rest assured he is in a very happy place, and I know he is playing his accordian and telling stories for Angels and our family members who have gone before us! God Bless you Tim!

From the time he was very small, Tim always seemed to have a smile on his face, a joke on his lips, a dance in his feet and a song in his heart. He grew to be a man of countless talents and unbounded kindness. One of the family's brightest lights is shining for God and will light each of our paths as our time comes to join him. I will miss him terribly.

Please accept my deepest sympathies, Wendy, for your loss. Tim possessed a postive, kind and lively spirit, and I enjoyed the opportunity to get to know him in seminary. He even helped me out when the gear shift broke off the steering wheel column of my '79 Mercury Cougar: I drove around Columbus for several years after that with a wrench (later, a vice-grip) as my "new" gear shift lever. A prime example of his ingenuity at work! Tim will be missed by many.
