William Coulter Obituary

Coulter William Bond Coulter, age 88, of Reynoldsburg, Chancellor Emeritus of the Ohio Board of Regents, died on January 9, 2017. He retired at the close of 1989 following twenty-six years with the Board, including six years serving as Chancellor. He served earlier as Executive Director of the Inter-University Council of Ohio, as Assistant to the Director of the Ohio Department of Finance, and with the Ohio Legislative Service Commission. From 1990 to 1997 he served as a member of the Ohio Industrial Technology and Enterprise Development Advisory Board by appointment of Governor Richard F. Celeste. A native of East Gary, Indiana, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a graduate of Transylvania College in Lexington, Kentucky, holding honorary degrees as well from Otterbein College, The University of Toledo, Wright State University and Ohio University. He was a long-term member and Elder of the Parkview Presbyterian Church in Reynoldsburg. Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Virginia Lewis Coulter; four children and their spouses, Barbara (Bill) Edwards, Bill (Deb) Coulter, Bob (Tammy) Coulter, and Dick (Darla) Coulter; grandchildren, David Edwards, Lindsey (Mike) Marsolo, Gene Edwards, Steven Coulter, Kelsey (Chris) Spicuzza, Amy Coulter, Carly Coulter (Howard Jones), Riley Coulter, and last but not least Alexandra Coulter; and her brothers, Billy and Corey; and great-grandchildren, Cameron, Holland, Fletcher, Bennett and Molly. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Belle Tribby, Nancy Colcord, Betty Hucke, and Helen (Jerry) Abrecht; and many, many wonderful in-laws, nieces and nephews in the Coulter and Lewis/Perkins families. He is preceded in death by father and mother John Knox and Belle Bond Coulter, and by much loved brother John K. Coulter, Jr. "With what shall I come before the Lord? Do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God." (Micah 6:6,8) Dad lived a life of humble service and love. Our joy of him overflows into tears and laughter. And each of us knows, we were really his favorite. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, January 13, at COTNER FUNERAL HOME, at 7369 East Main St., Reynoldsburg. Following a private burial, with Reverend Nate Manzo officiating, a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. at Parkview Presbyterian Church, 6969 E. Livingston Ave., Reynoldsburg. M deepest sympathies. Ginny, my mother always thought highly of you and remembered when you were at the farm in Illinois with her parents, Van and Lucy (Perkins) Maupin and went up to Uncle Wyatt's in Iowa.
