William McCloud Obituary

McCLOUD William Jerry McCloud, M.D., quietly passed away on Monday, April 2, 2012 surrounded by his family who so dearly loved him. His valiant effort to recover from cancer was thwarted by complications he could not overcome. Jerry to all who knew him, and affectionately "Pop" to his young grandsons, was born on December 27, 1935, at his home in Mayfield, Ohio. He spent his high school years living on his family's 160-acre farm where he raised his Berkshire pigs and explored the countryside on his Ford tractor. Jerry graduated from Lanier High School in West Alexandria, Ohio, received his BS from the Ohio State University, and earned his MD from Ohio State Medical School. He did his orthopedic internship at Los Angeles County Hospital and his residence rotations at Ohio State University Hospital. After retiring from surgery, Jerry spent many years working as a medical consultant at the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation and the industrial Commission of Ohio. Most recently, Jerry was the chief orthopedic consultant for the Ohio Rehabilitation and Social Security Services where he worked for over eleven years. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Ruby Jane Lacy McCloud and William Jefferson McCloud, his infant son Joshua David McCloud, and his brother-in-law Albert D. Bellamy, DVM. He is survived by his wife, Judith Sudak McCloud, to whom he was married 44 years; his son and daughter-in-law, Gregory Kyle and Maria McCloud and Joseph Michael and Tara McCloud; his daughter and son-in-law, Andrea Maria McCloud and Derek Gaertner; and his sister, Maxine McCloud Bellamy. He also leaves behind his precious grandsons William Mathias McCloud, Ames McCloud Gaertner, with brother on the way, Oliver Wade McCloud, and Ian Rogers McCloud. Jerry will be remembered doing what he loved: spending time with his family, watching his "beloved Buckeyes," playing golf, and going to the racetrack. The family would like to thank Dr. Andrew Grainger and his oncology team for their gracious, kind, and constant care throughout the past ten months. We also want to thank Dr. Keith Nichols and Dr. Steven Duff for their surgical expertise and support. Additional thanks goes to the staff in the Riverside Hospital recovery room, ICU, and step-down unit and to the physical therapists at the Highbanks Care Center for their compassion and professionalism. And Jerry would especially want us to express his tremendous gratitude to all of those who sent their thoughts, prayers, and well wishes throughout his illness. The cards and kind gestures continued strength to both him and his family. Thank you. To honor his wishes, there will be no funeral, visitation, or memorial. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the HomeReach Hospice c/o the Ohio Health Foundation, 180 East Broad St., Columbus, OH 43215. Final arrangements are being handled by the Ohio Cremation and Memorial Society. The family encourages those who wish to share memories or condolences to visit www.ohiocremation.org

Judith, I hope you and the kids are doing ok. Jerry and I were good friends at BDD for many years and told stories to each other about our kids. He would ask me psychology questions. I will miss him a lot. Carl Tishler

I knew Dr. McCloud also from RSC. Such a sweet man. I can not think of a time he had a frown on his face. He will be missed here. I am so sorry for your loss.

My thoughts and deepest sympathies are with you, thank you for sharing him with me. I will always remember his smile.
