William Schwartz Obituary

SCHWARTZ William Schwartz, age 57, of Hilliard, passed away Monday, December 6, 2010 at his home. He was born January 31, 1953 in Rutland, Vermont and grew up in Rochester, NY. He came to Columbus in 1970 as a student at The Ohio State University, where he earned bachelor's and master's degrees. He was employed at Ohio State University for more than 33 years and has served as Associate Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Student Life since 2001. His talents and dedication were instrumental in planning numerous projects, including the university's recreation center and student union. Preceded in death by mother Jeanne Wallach Schwartz. Bill is survived by his wife, Sandra Graham Schwartz; daughters, Lauren Schwartz and Lisa Schwartz; father and step-mother, Harold and Irene Schwartz; sister, Ellen (David) Smith; brothers, Ronald (Deborah) Schwartz and Martin Schwartz; mother-in-law, Thelma Graham; sister-in-law, Jayne Graham; nieces and nephews, Lindsey (Jordan) Genut, Diana Smith, Stephanie Schwartz, Michael Schwartz, Jonathan Schwartz and Brigitte Schwartz. Family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich St., Hilliard, OH 43026, where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday with The Rev. Jim Browne officiating. Interment Wesley Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Avenue, Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266. www.tiddfuneralservice.com

Bill was a great man. I do not know if everyone knew how funny he was or that he was a great bowler. He was a great thinker, problem-solver and listener. He was a great team player. I will always remember him (and Sandy) as a great team together. And if you were lucky enough to have his friendship and confidence, you were blessed beyond measure.

Today one of my student employees asked me to pose for a photo for her photography class while sitting at my desk. She asked me to write down on a card my answer to "Why do I have this job?" It took me no time to answer. "Because someone believed in me and gave me a chance to succeed." I'll never forget his kindness.

So sorry that Billy passed away. Can't believe it. My heart breaks for you all! He was one of the first people that I met at OSU - on your 18th birthday when we were freshmen many years ago!
