Essie Dean McClendon was born to Willie Louis Ivy and Myrtle (Buchanan) Ivy on March 28, 1937 in Chickasaw Co.
Essie Dean McClendon is survived by 2 daughters; Ozella Ivy of Shannon, MS and Priscilla McClendon of Douglasville, Ga. One son; James McClendon (Elisa) of Tupelo, MS. 4 Sisters; Pearlie Mae Stevenson of Shannon, MS, Stella Smith (Jerome) of Okolona, MS, Earlean Ivy of Shannon, MS, Ressia Clark (Dennis) of Shannon, MS. Brothers; Tommie Ivy, John Ivy (Stacy), Harvey Lee Ivy (Martha) James Ivy, and Bobby Ivy (Louis Ann) all of Shannon, MS. There are 6 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren 2 great-great grandchildren and a hosts of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Essie D. McClendon was preceded in death by Annie Louise McClendon, Larry E. McClendon, Willie C. McClendon, Austin McClendon, Curly L. McClendon, Jr., Cora Mitchell, Cleoria Crayton, Mary Elizabeth Snow, Willie T. Ivy, and Eugene Ivy.
The visitation will be on Sat., May 17, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. The service will begin promptly after the visitation at 11:30 p.m. at Poplar Springs UMC with Dr. Clementine Mays officiating. The burial will follow at the Poplar Springs UMC cemetery.
Williams Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.

To my family: On Saturday, May 17, 2025, as you celebrate the life and legacy of Essie. I am encouraging each of you to let your joy and light shine as a testament to her, showing that even in her absence, her love still flows abundantly amount each of you. Just remember the words of the psalmist. "Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning"
I will continue to keep you all as family in my prayers, because my Heavenly Father who alone is able to console all of us in this time of sadness.
