Elizabeth Ames Obituary

Elizabeth Bevier "Betty" Ames

Mequon - August 11, 1931-June 2, 2018

"Betty" left this world on the evening of June 2nd, 2018 in the loving environment of Newcastle Place in Mequon, Wisconsin. She died peacefully surrounded by immediate family. Betty was raised in Scarsdale, New York. She graduated from Denison University, Granville, Ohio, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She made lifelong friendships while in Ohio, especially the one with John Ames. Married in 1954, they were stationed in Tacoma, Washington, where John was a Naval Officer. They eventually settled in Whitefish Bay, where they raised their family. Betty and John have been longtime, active members of Hill Point Church, and she's always been passionate about sharing the gospel with others. Among Betty's loves were her faith, providing swim therapy for children with special needs, counseling for expectant mothers, and her 64-year marriage to John. Most of all, Betty was a loving homemaker, mother and grandmother.

Whether at their cottage in Egg Harbor, their home in Whitefish Bay or on the east coast with family, Betty was never happier than when she was near the water. She also enjoyed sewing, painting, tennis, golf, sailing and all forms of skiing. There was not a single activity she wouldn't try, especially when John suggested they do them as a team!

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Margery Bevier. She is survived by her husband John, brother Louis (Treva) Bevier, sister Phyllis Gibson, daughter Carolyn (Mark) Stephens, sons Gary (Heidi) Ames and David (Catherine) Ames, grandchildren, Christopher and Andrew Flint, Madeline and Isabella Ames, and great-granddaughters, Iris and Willow Flint.

John and Betty have always felt God's presence as the events of their lives have occurred; the growth of their family, their friendships, and their retirement. Betty, with John, felt truly blessed during this life.

A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday June 14 at Hill Point Church, 2500 Brown Deer Road, River Hills, and beginning with visitation at 10:00 AM, followed by an 11:00 AM service.

We live in Point Beach, a few blocks from John and Betty. They would travel the neighborhood on their scooters and were always a delight to talk to. We wish John the best. He was a lucky man to have Betty in his life for so many years.
