Our dear mother, Jeannette "Jan" Evelyn Bousquin-Mellish, passed away on October 2, 2024, at the age of 88, in Auburn, AL.
Jeannette was born on April 22, 1936, to Sylvio Leon and Josephine May Bousquin in Portland, Maine. She was the eldest of 4 children in a military family. She graduated from high school in Pemberton, New Jersey at Pemberton High School in 1954. She met and married our father, James "Jim" Richard Mellish (LTC, Army Retired), in Chinon France.
She is survived by her children, James Walter Mellish of West Lafayette, IN, Dianne (John) Leslie Register of Dothan, AL, Elizabeth Ann Gregg of Auburn, AL, and Lynda (Darrell "Mark") Lorraine Kelley of Clarksville, TN. Jan is also survived by her 8 grandchildren, Jeaninne Logan, James E. Mellish, James Kelley, Jennifer Kelley, Happy Gregg III (Madison), Mathew Gregg (Morgan), John Kelley (Christina), and Rachel Kelley, and 8 great-grandchildren, Brandon Logan, Calla Kelley, Christian James "CJ" Logan, Teddy Grace Gregg, Wyatt Gregg, Jack Kelley, Maggie Gregg, & Happy "Rowdy" Gregg IV). Jan also had nieces & a nephew ,Carla, Marilyn, Kim, Susie, and Joe, whom she was extremely fond of. Additionally, she has two step grandsons, John Register Jr. and Zack Register, and three step granddaughters, Carlee, Campbell and Chloe. Everyone of Jan's family members will greatly miss her and her Ruby Red Lipstick kisses.
Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; her parents; her siblings, Sylvio Bousquin, Richard Bousquin, and Theresa Bousquin; and her grandson, Christopher Kelley.
Jan loved traveling and adventure! She has lived all over the world and has immersed herself in the cultures as much as possible. She thoroughly enjoyed Music, Theater, and the Visual Arts. Much of her adult life was spent seeking out local entertainment and venues to explore with her family and anyone else willing to tag along! She never shied away from doing new things and was typically the first one up for a challenge. Yearly, the family would come together with her for large holiday gatherings and at the beach for a summer getaway.
Before moving to Auburn, Jan had spent 39 years in Enterprise, AL, where she and our father Jim settled after his military retirement. She took up bookkeeping while in Hawaii and worked at a flight school. Later, she used her bookkeeping skills to open Triangle Flower and Gift Shop and the Carousel of Flowers in Enterprise, AL, which she operated for nearly 32 years.
She was a longtime member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Enterprise, AL. Most recently she had been a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Auburn. Along with actively volunteering at church, she was an active member of the Officer's Wives Club, and Pilot Club. Jan was an active member of the Business Network Association (BNA) in Enterprise where she supported the success of small business.
The funeral service for Jan will be held Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Auburn, AL.
Jan will be laid to rest at a later date in Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, Fort Mitchell, AL, alongside Jim.
