LENORA MCCALL Obituary

Lenora Culbreth McCall Lenora Culbreth McCall, of Cottonwood, passed away Friday, March 15, 2013 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was 79 years old. Visitation will be held from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. Monday, March 18, 2013 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Union Hill Baptist Church, 7335 S. County Road 33, Cottonwood with Pastor Kyle Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery on St. Mary Road, Cottonwood. Mrs. McCall was born November 28, 1933 to Clarence Edwin and Ada Marzett Tindell Culbreth. She was predeceased by her parents and her siblings; John M. Culbreth, Edwin Culbreth, Ray Culbreth, Doris Culbreth Rhodes and Martha Culbreth Tyson. Mrs. McCall grew up in Rehobeth and in July 1952 married Edward Howard McCall of Cottonwood. Together they survived the Korean Conflict, the births of four children, floods and droughts, feasts and famines as they farmed the land they loved so much. Mr. McCall passed away April 3, 2003 after almost 51 years of marriage. Mrs. McCall had many hobbies among which were walking and hunting arrowheads, bowling, playing Scrabble, Chickenfoot dominoes, doing crossword puzzles, reading, fishing and singing. She enjoyed going monthly to her Rehobeth Class of '52 Reunion breakfast at Shoney's. She was an active member of Union Hill Baptist Church and enjoyed singing in the choir and being co-Hospitality Committee chairman. She was a member of the Happy Group Senior Adults from Union Hill Baptist Church and of the Doll Halstead Sunday School Class. She also enjoyed participating in activities at the Cottonwood Senior Citizens Center, where she leaves many precious friends. Besides her parents and siblings, Mrs. McCall was predeceased by her in-laws, Samuel Mason and Eula Viola Rich McCall, brothers-in-law, Theodore, Earl and Sammy McCall, Cullen Rhodes and sister-in-law, Kathryn Hare McCall. Survivors include her children, Charles Edward (Chuck) McCall and his wife, Judy, Jan Taylor and husband, Danny, Connie Coleman and husband, David, Melissa Westberry and husband, Chip, all of Cottonwood; grandchildren, Alyssa Dorsey and husband, Matthew, Rocky Mount, NC, Casey McCall and wife, Niki, Lexington, KY, Brad McCall, Washington, Tania Davis and husband, Bill, Dothan, Mandy Collins and husband David, Wicksburg, Carmen Butler and husband, Nathan, Cottonwood, Brent Taylor and wife Amanda, Dothan, Brian Coleman and wife Dana, Ft. Payne, Jessica Kaminski and husband Kyle, Hixson, TN, Sara Powers, Cottonwood, Matt Westberry and wife Shauna, Tuscaloosa, Megan Powers, Graceville, FL, Morgan Westberry, Winston-Salem, NC; great-grandchildren, Silas, Micah, Anna and Leah Dorsey, Josiah, Lily, Elias, Eden and Samuel McCall, Katherine Davis, Stone and River Collins, Caleb Butler, Reed Taylor, Felicity Howard; brothers and sisters-in-law, Carolyn Culbreth, Graceville, FL, Dorothy Culbreth, Dothan, Sara Pitts, Cottonwood, Patty Sue Fowler and Eleanor McCall, Dothan, Zadie McCall, Blairsville GA, Lonnell and Bill Clark, Douglasville, GA and a host of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. The McCall family wishes to thank everyone for their kindness and consideration during this very difficult time. In particular we would like to thank the Cottonwood Senior Citizens Center and the Cottonwood Rescue Squad for their quick response and excellent care, the ER staff, CCU staff, Dr. Saeeda K. Malik, and the nurses of the sixth floor at Southeast Alabama Medical Center for their expertise and kindness, Covenant Hospice and their staff of caring and devoted professionals.
