Peggy Wise Obituary

Peggy Lou Wise, age 73, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Sunday, June 1, 2008, after a brief illness. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and by those that were touched by her many charitable contributions.
She was born Jan. 7, 1935, to Dewey and Tura (Caldwell) Wise of Samson. Peggy attended Samson High School and then Auburn University, where she earned her degree in elementary education. At Auburn, she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. After graduating college, Peggy taught physical education in Fort Lauderdale and Fort Walton Beach, Fla. Peggy then worked a civil service job as the entertainment director at Fort Rucker, Fort Gordon, Ga., Maxwell Air Force Base, Ga., and Tachikawa AFB, Japan.
After traveling the world, Peggy went to Los Angeles, Calif., where she attended Diner's Fugazy Travel School. She then returned to her beloved Gulf Coast and worked for Sea-Sky Travel. Peggy eventually opened her own travel agency, Travel Adventures Unlimited, located on Yacht Club Drive. By the time she retired in 1997, she owned the largest agency in the county, employing 13 agents. Peggy was a member of the chamber of commerce, where she served on the transportation committee for 20 years. She was a member of the Island Garden Club and an officer in the American Society of Travel Agents. Peggy's greatest wish was that she gave to her community just as much as they had given to her. She was passionate about her community. Peggy was an avid Auburn Tigers fan and hopes to be reunited with her dog and faithful companion of 15 years, Mr. Bo Jangles.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother-in-law, Fred Denman; and her nephew, Dewey Frederick Denman.
Peggy is survived by her sister, Jo Anne (Wise) Denman; her nephew, Donald Denman and his sons, Dewey Thomas and Dylan Denman of Samson; her niece, Rebecca (Denman) Heberlein and her daughter, Casey of Gulf Shores; her niece, Dianne (Denman) and Steve Godfrey and their daughters, Samantha and Stephanie of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Joe Lisenby officiating at Beal Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Steeple Fund for the First United Methodist Church of Samson.
Arrangements have been entrusted to McLaughlin Mortuary, 17 Chestnut Ave., Fort Walton Beach, FL 32548.
McLaughlin Mortuary of Fort Walton Beach, (850) 244-5763, is in charge of arrangements. Sign the guest book at www.dothaneagle.com.

Joann, Beth, Don, and other Family, I can't tell you how sorry I am to hear of Peggy's passing. Though I haven't seen any of you lately the ties that we have are still there. It saddens me to think that once again somebody that I had the pleasure of meeting through Mother would now be among those who've passed on. Dear Joann and family,
Illness kept me from being with
you to say goodbye for now to Peg.
She was a vibrant and dynamic
force wherever she was. She brought
warmth and love into a room.
Among her greatest joy was to
"divil my mother (whom she named
'Granny Go-Go') and Marvin.
All of you, Peg, Tura and Mr. Bojangles are in my prayers.
God Bless,
Alice Smith,Sassy and Mr. Dees-Smith.

"The Peg" was one of the most wonderfully funny people I have ever had the honor of knowing. As a child, I remember her coming over to Mom and Dad's house on Santa Rosa Court and keeping us rolling in the floor for hours.

Peggy was a great influence in my sense of humor. It was always a good feeling to see Peggy. She could tell a story---mind you a true event that had taken place in her life---and keep you mesmerized for hours. I learned then that I wanted to be like her---an upper---not a downer.

From hilarious sayings like---as she and Mom were singing---"Homogenize"---to "If I'd a knowed you'd a goed, I'd a see'd you had a way to went"---something funny "The Peg" has said is always ringing through my brain.

And she was as wonderful a human being, as she was a comedian.

I'm sure that she and Bo Jangles are painting the other side of Marvin's face right now!
